These 6 States Spend The Most On Fishing (By Far)

We’ve been digging through some fresh fishing data…
And let’s just say — there are some serious surprises in here.

Like:

  • A shocking number of anglers who don’t even own a boat (and still CRUSH it)

  • More women than ever are picking up a rod and reel

  • And what nearly EVERY angler has in common from childhood…

This isn’t just random trivia.
This is the kind of info that makes you stop and say:
“Whoa… fishing impacts way more people than I realized.”

We also cover the biggest barrier keeping folks from fishing more — and how you can help fix it.

PA people invade the NJ shore to do Salt Water fishing. Most Nj beach towns have multi generational Beach Houses owned by the good people of PA. That’s where i started when I was 6 years old and where I take my Grand Kids now even though we all live in Texas.

New York makes the list because of Long Island, which is loaded with fishing maniacs. I lived there for the first 57 years of my life and still have a house there, though I did escape to Florida 3 years ago for obvious reasons. If you’ve never been, I strongly recommend visiting Montauk in the early fall for some incredible Striped Bass fishing.

Maybe the Native Hawaiian and Alaskan folks don’t have to have a license to fish or hunt was my thought, anyhow was impressed by the number of folks enjoying this great sport and enjoying the great outdoors.

I got 5 of 6 states. I had Michigan not Ohio as the sixth. Ohio? Very surprising.

Hi guys,
I guess I fit into the pre 12 but I simply didn’t have the means or access or the time. My profession had me on the oceans but flying on them. Add three kids and grad school and it just fell off. I retired at 62, and have been fishing since then. SaltStrong membership, courses, tips and tackle have had me catch up sort of. I’ll never be a pro but as long as I can launch and recover my kayak on the Chesapeake and intracoastal I’m fishing. I have every intention of teaching both of my granddaughters to fish. I already took the 4 y/o at 3 and the 18 mo old is on the agenda! Tight lines SaltStrong nation. Thanks Joe, Luke and ALL of the SS team.

That’s sounds like a solid plan Kevin. Work does get in the way. I have fished all my life but the frequency was restricted due to work. I retired 3 years ago and now am on the water at least 90 days a year. I can choose the days now and if it’s nice, I’m fishing. Waiting on my young grandchildren to get old enough to take. Tight lines!

I would imagine more people fish in Hawaii but do not buy a license.
