April is prime time for catching a slam! If you haven’t yet prepared – be sure to check out Coach Pat’s video on the best spring lures.
The bite has still been good during twilight periods on average, but it can oftentimes be best during the day as the water temps increase to the point where the fish are feeling more comfortable. So keep an eye on those strike scores and feeding predictions in Smart Fishing Spots.
In addition to the marshes and flats, the bridge and pier fishing can be a smart play for giving land-based anglers a great option for getting baits out to deeper water where many fish will be holding especially during the cooler hours.
The ideal spots to target will most often have the following 3 factors:
– (A) Ambush points for predators in the form of structure
– (B) Baitfish presence of food for predators to ambush
– (C) Current flow to make it easier for the predators to find more food
When you find spots that have the ABC trifecta, the odds of catching some quality game fish skyrockets!
Once you get to a spot, look for these indicators to determine how much time you spend there:
– Are baitfish present in/near structure zones?
– Are there any feeding birds present?
– Are there any jumping mullet nearby?
If 2 or more, then it’s worth spending your time there… if not, it’s often best to pick up and move to the next spot.
