Pro anglers and Guides will tell you others don’t catch nearly as many fish as they should because they can’t get the lure or bait where it needs to be to catch fish.
This has everything to do with casting accuracy.
Your gear, lure color, rod, reel, or anything else really doesn’t matter if you can’t get the lure where the fish are.
One of the first and easiest ways to correct this is with a hula-hoop.
Yup, a hula-hoop.
Place it out in the yard, a local park, or field and practice casting to it.
Walk 40 feet away from the hoop and try casting your lure into it.
Another factor to be mindful of is WHERE you are casting.
Don’t just cast out in random areas.
Be intentional with your casts looking for signs of life or structure that will hold predatory fish.

Thanks Matt for the casting accuracy video. Practice makes perfect!
Sorry, Pat I meant
Great post Pat.
Agree 100% with what you are saying. The biggest issue I have in my accuracy is changing from one rod to another. It usually takes me two or three casts to dial in the next rod and lure/weight combination.
OK Pat, you got me pegged. Did I miss a part on what’s best to put on your line when you practice? I would think nothing with hooks to catch in the grass. Maybe wrong, thoughts. I thinking a teardrop bank sinker…
Honestly William, I use a 2.0 rigged on a Hoss Helix 1/8 oz hook. Just make sure there’s no kiddos or pets around. The reason I use this is because that’s what I fish a lot with. Might as well practice with what you use, you don’t see professional sports teams using anything they don’t play with.
Great video! Thanks Pat
Thanks Donald!
As Golf Instructor Butch Harmon (taught Woods, Els, Adam Scott) famously said…”If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time”. Accuracy is critical.
So true!,
Thought influences outcome.
More than most will consider it to!
Positive mental attitude prevails!
It sure does!
I visualize a clock and cast to a number on the clock.
Great tip Mark!
Pat, great reminder and helpful tips. I’m not sure how many Insiders pickup on the importance when SFS 90/10 zones are shown to be quite large, and often in open water. I notice when fishing the mangroves that the better fish are often in a small pocket or under branches shading the water, and they hold very tight to structure much of the time. And if not ready, a lure sometimes receives an instantaneous reaction strike as soon as it hits the water
Off topic: (1) You might want to change the creation of this content to you as it currently shows Matt. (2) I guess the reference to giving a like to this content is if viewed from YouTube as I don’t see that option when viewed from the SS platform.
Thanks Rob! I’ll take a look at that and yes the “like” comment was for the YouTube audience.
