Now that we’re in the fall season with some cooler air pushing through, the water temperatures are comfortable for the fish which puts them in a good feeding mood. With the elevated current flows from the recent Full Moon, the bite can be almost any time of the day, so keep an eye on those strike scores and feeding predictions in Smart Fishing Spots. In addition to the marshes and flats, the surf fishing is picking up giving land-based anglers a great option for some fun fishing.

My favorite target this time of the year are points with structure and some exposure to current flow… find that combo, and there’s almost always some predator fish there ready to pounce on an unsuspecting prey (or lure) that gets close to them.

Larger lures are great picks to help you work large areas quickly and find some fish. Give the 5″ Mulligan Bomber, Moonwalker, and Skinny Lipper a try on your next outing.

Once you get to a spot, look for these indicators to determine how much time you spend there:

• Are baitfish present in/near structure zones?
• Are there any feeding birds present?
• Are there any jumping mullet nearby?

If two or more, then it’s worth spending your time there… if not, it’s often best to pick up and move to the next spot.
