Lure Lock Tackle Box Review (Pros, Cons… Does It Really Work?)

http://lure%20lock%20tackle%20box%20review

Have you seen the Lure Lock tackle box?

It’s a tackle box with sticky gel pads that hold your hooks, lures, and other terminal tackle in place so that they don’t get all tangled up with each other.

But does it really work?

In this video, I’m doing an experiment to see if it actually works, plus I’ll break down the pros and cons of these tackle boxes.

If you’re considering getting this tackle box, you’re going to love this video.

First, let’s tackle this question: why would you want a sticky gel pad at the bottom of your tackle box?

If you’ve ever had hooks, swivels, lures, and jig heads get caught up and tangled in each other, you know how frustrating that can be.

That’s why Lure Lock created their tackle box.

Their “TakLogic technology” makes it so these items don’t bounce around in the tackle box and get tangled up in each other.

Instead, they’re stuck to the bottom and immobile.

Now, how strong is this sticky gel pad?

Actually, really strong!

As you can see in the video, this pad held all of my equipment when I flipped over the tackle box and shook it, including a four-ounce egg sinker!

So now that you know what it’s for and that it works, let’s get into the pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Helps items in your tackle box not get tangled up in each other
  • Gel pad is dishwasher safe
  • Not too much more expensive than a regular tackle box
  • Additional gel pads are available for sale for your other tackle boxes
  • Comes with a sticker and several dividers

Cons:

  • You can’t pile things up in the compartments since they need to be touching the gel pad
  • The box is not watertight
  • The latches aren’t very tight (although if they pop open, nothing is likely to pop out!)

When closed and latched the dividers of Plano‘s 3640-1 waterproof box maintain separation….
Add a magnet (button, ball) or magnetic tape to each compartment so when the rogue wave hits as your searching your wide open tackle box- it won’t be a total loss .

Thanks for the review Tony. I tried one Last year after seeing them at icast and my 2 cents was didn’t care for it. I found it really only works for hard baits with one bait per section. Since I keep more than one bait per section switching to these would require more boxes so more $$ and more space. The only benefit to the box I found was if you knock it over gear doesn’t fly all over. Since I use both boat and kayak I will continue to use the watertight Plano as I feel that is a bigger asset than the glue pad. BTW, on a separate note it’s a great mousetrap.

Tony, did you try getting stuff out of the box, especially the small hooks & swivels?

It’s a cool idea but I can picture tons of dirt and crap sticking to the gel pad reducing its effectiveness and not coming out. It’s not for me but kind of a cool idea

Thanks for review Tony! Fishing from a kayak, I need the box to be watertight, so unfortunately these are not optimal for my use. Thanks for letting me know though. Maybe they’ll come out with a watertight version, but for now, I’m likely going to buy some Flambeau boxes.

Hey Tony…….was wondering how soft plastic lures would fare on the sticky surface. I like having one box for both hard and soft baits.

Right Tony – I figured as much. I keep looking for a good way to transport pre-rigged paddle tails so that the tail section stays straight and doesn’t warp. Will keep experimenting.

I am thinking over a period of time dirt will become a problem sticking too the surface
