When the water starts to cool, nearshore reefs can become hot spots for migratory fish looking for a warm home…
So we met up with Capt. Mike Goodwine to check one of these public reefs and see if the fish have showed up yet.
Plus, per usual, Luke was testing our trustworthy Prawn U.S.A. lure vs live bait. This lure has made true believers of die-hard live-bait fishermen. Will it convert Captain Mike…
Click below to come hang out with us on the boat to learn some tips, tricks, and results, so that you’re prepared to hit these reefs and catch more fish this winter!
👉 The Prawn continues to outfish live bait, even offshore! Get it in the Ultimate Shrimp Bundle here, along with the rigging and profiles that set you up when the fronts start pushing through.

- The weight choices in moving vs slower tide
- Which bait gets picked up when they’re sitting on structure
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to spend weeks trying to figure this out the hard way.
When you understand where fish shift as conditions change and why certain presentations get noticed, you can dial in much faster. If this helps you make a more confident decision on your next trip, that’s the win.

Great video
Great video Joe. Luke with the Prawn was crushing it!
One of the best fighting fish I’ve caught was a 27 inch triple. 30 min fight with 30 pound braid. Was insane!!!
The capt’s small hook comment! Bahahaha. Gotta think you have to have the right size vessel to get out there. Not sure my 14′ yak would be the safest route.
Yea well you may not have to spend weeks trying to figure out this method but you do have to have a boat that’s big and safe enough to handle fishing offshore and thats what I lack or actually care to have I fish out of a 17 ft carolina skiff and would NEVER take it off shore and being a 20 year retired navy veteran has seen and know alot about the sea and the Atlantic can get pretty rough in a blink of an eye to dangerous for me and what I know about the ocean is at least 95 percent of the time or more the sea is fairly rough making fishing a rocking and rolling excursion that to me is not fun so no thanks because I did my time floating on the brink blue on both coasts pacific and Atlantic I stick with what’s peaceful and reletively calm its the st johns river and the icw for me plus the fact im horrible in figuring out gps even though I have one I never use it and without it its pretty difficult in finding reefs and structure that’s nearshore or offshore so thanks but no thanks but thanks for all you do
Great video. I was hoping to keep the inshore reefs a secret. They are one of my favorite winter spots and I rarely have competition!
Cover the area,so very important
Good education on submerged bolders and reefs bottom fishing.the colder the more sheepshead.the weight you use makes a difference.the prawn is the ultimate bait!!!
