The $191 Fishing Item I’ll NEVER Leave Home Without…

If you’ve ever struggled to pack rods for a trip (or worse, had them broken in transit), you’re going to love this one.
Luke and I just got back from Venice, Louisiana, and this $191 piece of fishing equipment should be in every angler’s arsenal.
We put it to the test against monster reds, jacks, and even a 26 lb black drum on 10 lb braid and it crushed.
👉 Grab your Slam Stick Travel Rod here while it’s still $191 for Insiders.
Why This Rod Stands Out
The Slam Stick Travel Rod isn’t just another travel rod.
-
4-in-1 design: Comes with interchangeable mid-sections (medium & medium-light) and tips (fast & moderate-fast). One rod, multiple setups.
-
Longer build (7’6”): Outcasts and outperforms standard 7’ travel rods. That extra distance and leverage made a huge difference fighting bull reds.
-
Indestructible case: Holds two rods in one carry-on. Perfect for flights, trucks, or even strapping to a motorcycle.
-
Proven strength: Handled 25+ lb fish with ease.

Pair It With The Right Gear
We used the Otis 2500 reel with 10 lb braid, light tackle that still landed giants.
👉 Check out the Otis Spinning Reel here.
For lures, we rotated between:
- Popping corks + 5″ paddletails on a jig in the big water
-
Finesse rigging the Mulligan on weighted hooks when sight fishing in the ponds
The Smart Fishing Advantage
On top of the rod performance, we also tested the brand-new Fish Identifier feature in the Smart Fishing Spots app.
Just snap a picture of your catch and the app:
-
Instantly IDs the species
-
Shows local regulations (by state and coast)
-
Adds it to your private catch log with tide and weather data
This makes it easier than ever to log trips, analyze patterns, and build your personal fishing database.
Final Thoughts
Luke and I have tried plenty of travel rods over the years, but this one is on another level.
It’s versatile, packs down small, and has the backbone to handle trophy fish.

Joe and Luke, I really like my travel rod, I can’t wait to get a 2nd bottom piece. I have a question, any med heavy mid sections in the works?
Thanks
Yes, we are working on a MH mid section for this travel rod.
Thank you, Luke. When will the extra “butt” section come in stock? I’ve been using my travel rod and I am very impressed!
The extra butt sections should be available in early November.
Got my rod, very nice. A question I have is when putting together are the pieces supposed to have a gap? I did not want to force them together.
Yes, the gap is by design (many high end fly rods are doing that now too).
So tell me why your podcast and label for this article about your travel rod is listed on your tackle section on your website for members at 229 dollars but this article you say its 191 unless of coarse your not including tax and shipping?
Yes, the $191 does not include shipping. And as mentioned at the end of the podcast, that low introductory price will be going up very soon as we are going to be sold out within the next 24 hours.
Great podcast! I bought the travel rod, when will the extra butt be available?
The extra butt will be available in early November (we’re trying to pull it into Oct).
Taking my new SS travel rod to use in Sept. I have the TFO and really like it but after listening to you guys I can’t wait to try out my new ‘multi’ rig!! Also really like the idea of the extra..B..B..handle.
Hmmm another rod or two…? Love the addition of fish ID to the ap
Yea well maybe this combo is great but I have got news for you im an old baby boomer homebody and have fished the same waters for over 2 decades now and dont plan on changing i don’t travel very far and definatly don’t fly or leave the country or state of Florida for that matter i have seen the western part of the world while during my 20 year career in the navy so im not interested in traveling and paying the high cost of flying and other us states to me donot offer any better inshore fishing that I can do right here where im at so obviously im in no need of a travel rod combo besides st croix are the rods I have used and loved for years as well as shimano reels and when something works for me for as long as these 2 brands of fishing tackle have with there unsurpassed quality in workmanship and performance not to mention awesome no questions asked warranties the question I got for you is why would I switch? Thanks but no thanks but thanks for all you do anyways
Looking forward to the second peduncle for my SS Travel rod.
Good one Tony!
Hope you and your family feel better soon, Luke! Can’t wait to get me some BUTT! Awesome rod’s! Color on that red was amazing.
SS used to carry the Toadfish travel rod. https://www.saltstrong.com/articles/toadfish-rod-reel-combo/ Looks like SS copied their travel rod concept. The SS model is certainly an upgrade from the Toadfish. I wish I could trade my Toadfish travel rod in for a SS travel rod.
