Hey there, anglers!
If you’ve ever struggled to figure out which crab lure will actually catch sheepshead, this one’s for you.
In my latest video, I review four crab lures: the Crusty Crab, Cranka Crab, Duratech Crab, and 3D Crab TPE.
I’ll break down the pros, cons, and, most importantly, which one I think is the best overall.
Here’s what you’ll get:
- A no-nonsense overview of each lure.
- The one lure I do NOT recommend (and why).
- My top pick for consistently catching sheepshead.
Whether you’re fishing pilings, docks, or rubble, the right lure can make all the difference. Ready to see which one comes out on top? Watch the video below!
Crab Lures By Ranking
- Duratech Crab [Overall Favorite]
- TPE Crab [2nd Favorite]
- Crusty Crab [no longer available]
- Cranka Crab [least favorite]
If you enjoyed this review, you’ll love seeing these lures put to the test! Check out this fun video where Joe and I were out catching sheepshead with two of these lures. It’s packed with tips and some great fish-catching moments.

Great video! Thanks for takng the time.
The Duratech with some Pro Cure is the only one I’ve had success with. The only problem is the pinfish like to pull those legs off as quick as they can, so I don’t get nearly as much life out of them as I’d like.
Interesting video. Good info on some of the lures that are out there for sheepshead.
will try
Old Video?
No beard!
Great info though
This video was filmed last week… just used old sheepshead footage that shows the lures in action for convenience.
Really interesting and informative. Thanks. As you said you just can’t beat a fiddler. But it is not like the old days. Hard to find now.
Thanks for sharing Luke and great information for us …… !
Glad to see that you enjoyed this video! Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Thomas.
I have heard good things about Z-man”s Kicker crab but haven’t had an opportunity to try it. Any experience with it? You add your own hook so you can adjust weight/ sink rate etc.
The Kicker Crab is more like a paddletail than a crab, so the odds of a sheepshead striking it is very low.
Great info. I bought some of the Cranka Crab. Too expensive and easy to lose. You nailed it. Thanks for the better option info
Glad to see that you enjoyed this crab lure comparison video.
Thanks Luke! Exactly what I wanted to see. There’s opportunity to produce a much better product, maybe? A fiddler design that emits scent through holes? IDK. Thanks again!
I am very interested in developing a crab lure for sheepshead, but that’ll be another year or so out.
