Knife and Pliers Combo Review: Price, Pros, Cons

Hey Salt Strong Nation,
Something about this knife and pliers combo made me stop and take a closer look, and it’s not the brand or the materials.
It’s the math.
At Salt Strong, a big part of our mission is helping anglers catch more fish while also saving money on the gear they’ll actually use.
I’ve put this exact knife to work a lot, especially on sheepshead, and I’ve also spent plenty of time with these pliers as well. So I wanted to break down what you’re really getting here and how both pieces have held up in real use.

Final Thoughts
The biggest takeaway from this combo is the value. The pricing is straightforward, and the performance has held up better than expected based on how I’ve used both pieces.
The pliers are not titanium, and the knife does not include a sharpener, so this is not a setup that will last forever without care. But based on the cost and how both pieces have performed so far, the value stands out.
If you’ve used either of these tools, feel free to share your experience in the comments so other anglers can learn from it.

I got some Danko pliers about a year and a half ago. The pliers are great however the sheath did not last. I really think they should offer a hard plastic sheath with a belt clip (even budget Kast King offers this). So the pliers went from being on my waist to being on the boat but they are definitely still in use.
Thanks for sharing your experience with these pliers.
I have been using Danko knives for six years now. They are easy to sharpen and hold a good edge. They are a great knife for the money.
Just wishing it has a split ring tooth. Check out the new Spro pliers. They have an improved split ring tooth. Supposedly great for switching the trebel hooks on Mirrolures. I’m getting some from the fishing Santa!
For split rings, the $5 ones linked here are by far the best I’ve used since they are small, light, and have a thin/shart point that easily opens even small split rings: https://fishstrong.com/products/fish-strong-braid-cutting-scissors-placeholder
do the pliers stay open all the time or do they have a locking feature to stay closed? closed
Yes, they do have a spring that keeps them open when not held in their sheath. There does not appear to be a switch that disengages the spring.
Since Luke is helping Insiders save money, don’t overlook the Group Discount link he posted. If you go to the Danco group discount, they’re offering the same 20% discount but also offering free shipping on all orders. Unsure if they charge sales tax on online purchases from every state, or not.
Awesome video and I will be making a purchase of this very soon …. Thanks Luke
I remember back in late summer of 2017 when I first joined saltstrong then in 2018 became a life member and for becoming a life member I recieved a gift of a nice pair of danco pliers and still use them they are extremely durable and well worth the money spent on them and I know they are not cheap but as far as knives go I don’t really use a knife persay WHILE fishing to cut leaders and braid I use a boomerang tool and as far as filtering my catch I do that at home unlike alot of inconsiderate anglers that do it at the ramp throwing there fish carcasses in the water by the ramp only to rot and stink but my favorite fillet knife is the Bubba series knives particularly the electric saltwater one that has 4 different lengths of interchangeable blades razor sharp and cordless with a rechargeable battery 2 included in the kit so I always have one ready to go not cheap though at 160 bucks at west marine but well worth it thanks for the info and all you do
Thanks for the review Luke !
Thanks for the review. Very helpful
