We Need Your Help With This New Fishing Forum! Only Takes 60 Seconds

Towards the end of last year, we asked you (the amazing audience of Salt Strong) what you would like to see us improve upon in 2016.
Needless to say, Luke and I were blown away when we received over 200 comments on the actual blog, not to mention, countless emails and Facebook messages with ideas and great feedback as well.
Note: You can view the original post along with the 200+ comments here
After reading every single comment and email, the most common request that we received (by a large margin) was to add some type of fishing forum here at Salt Strong.
But not just any fishing forum…
It needed to be different from what is already out there.
In particular, here is what we heard that you wanted us to fix in the existing fishing forums out there.
Create A Fishing Forum That:
- Is easy to use, easy to post new comments/pictures, and is easy to navigate
- Is family friendly and is constantly monitored by admins so that the spam and inappropriate posts get taken down immediately
- Is searchable and easy to find what you are looking for (unlike Facebook groups)
Well, Luke and I spent a ton of time testing out every forum platform out there, and we finally found a forum platform that is super easy to use, very well organized, and fits every request that we heard from you.
That is the exciting news.
However, we still have one BIG problem left to solve…
We didn’t know exactly what hot fishing topics you wanted to see on the forum first…
What main discussion boards would you like to see when we take the forum live?
From what we have read, the best advice is to only start with 3-4 main discussion boards and then branch out from there.
So please let us know your favorite forum topic by “Upvoting” and “Downvoting” your favorites/least favorites below.
After we get a decent amount of you voting, we will take the top 3-4 and get this baby live!
P.S. – If you think your angler friends or fishing networks would like to see this please Tag them or Share this with them. You Rock! Pa-POW!

Any update on the forum launch date? I’ve been “saving up” a few comments and questions to try and help get some good early participation.
Hey Jim, we are actually meeting with a “forum expert” (a guy that has built an incredibly large and super successful forum) next week and holding off on the launch until after that meeting. The reason is that forums either thrive or die in the first couple of months so we want to make sure we kick this thing off the correct way. Stay tuned my friend.
When I first read your post, I didn’t scroll far enough down the page to find the comment section so posted a comment on the Facebook page. Feel free to delete it if it doesn’t belong there. Anyway, here’s what I said in my Facebook post:
“I’m one of those who suggested a fishing forum and am glad to see that you’re getting ready to launch. It should be great. All of the topics you’ve suggested look great.
“Two additional ones I’d REALLY like to see are: 1) Events and Meet-ups (this could be for on-the-water tournements and fishing trips as well as off-water social get-to-togethers such as planned gatherings at a local bar or restuarant); and 2) Members Seeking Fishing Buddies.
“Both should be regional to help find and get to know other Saltstrong members who live or in the same local areas.”
Good stuff Jim! Thank you for the great feedback man. Fish On!
My big turn off in forums are just like you guys described in a podcast, people ripping one another. There is a first for everything, from fish caught to fish fried. Lets keep civility and respect a top priority. That includes course language too.
i look forward to everything on Salt Strong, and if the forum is as good as everything else, it’ll be awesome!
Thank you for the great feedback Stuart! One of our main discussions behind the scenes is how to eliminate spammers and trolls in our forum. I think we have a pretty unique solution that “just might work”… Stay tuned my friend.
Love the regional report idea.
Thanks Philip. That has been a pretty popular one based on the votes!
How about separate Inshore and Offshore sub categories for each Region so each type of report doesn’t get lost in one big Section?
Great feedback Rick!
As you know already, it’s one of the best and family friendliest fishing forums in the net. Please keep up the good work!
My input in general: is there any way to discuss the rules of the strong angler challenge? What sense does it make to post all the babies in order to collect points? Or is it just me who thinks this way?
2nd: What do you think of a monthly or quarterly get together of fellow Salt Strong anglers? We know each other from posting but it would be awesome to shake hands and having a good time together.
Tight lines, Wolfgang
Thank you for the feedback Wolfgang. I am sending you a private email to discuss further. Fish On!
Great work guys. Impressed as usual with the SS approach to getting things done. You’ve created a great community here
Thank you for being a part of it Tom! Fish On Brother.
This page has changed my entire fishing experience. Living in Florida I was never big into fishing. Crazy I know but it has become an addiction and learn as I go. You guys do a great job.
Thank you for the kind words James! Makes it all worth it hearing things like this. Fish On brother!
For the fishing reviews, it would be really helpful if they were grouped/tagged so you could easily see all the reviews about a particular brand/product/etc.
Great idea Adam! Thanks for the feedback brother.
