Gomexus Power Handles intends on being a replacement for factory-designed handles.

The power handles are a bit longer and fit snugly in the palm of your hand to provide you with more grip and torque to get those bigger fish in.

Lots of anglers are attracted to the look and appearance of the Gomexus handles but I prefer to use additional accessories that only will enhance my overall fishing experience.

If it doesn’t help me put more fish in the boat, then I personally would rather not spend my money on it.

After using a Gomexus Power Handle for well over a month now, I can safely say I have both positive and negative feelings towards the handles.

What Is A Power Handle?

The Gomexus Power Handle is a simple handle and knob replacement that is very easy to install.

All you would do is twist off the old handle (turning the handle backward on Daiwa products).

Then to place on the new Gomexus handle, simply twist on the handle as normal.

The initial out-of-the-box feel is super clean and really nice.

Right out of the box, the bearings are smooth and it feels really good in your hand.

Pros

On the side of the Gomexus box, it reads: “Feel Every Bite”.

This is actually true as a result of the metal design of the handles.

The constant contact of the metal and your hand allows the transfer of vibrations through your gear and into your hand.

You can feel the bites and tension in both the rod and the handle itself.

Cons

I describe myself as a Finesse Powerfisherman.

I like using lighter reels, lighter rods, and lighter line to throw smaller lures lots of the time.

So when I personally switched over to the longer Gomexus handle, it felt as if I was holding a much larger reel.

To some, this may be seen as an advantage but to me, it felt like I was using a 4000-size reel as opposed to what I was actually using which was a 2500-size reel.

Yes, with a longer power handle you can apply more torque when reeling in fish.

However, if you are fishing with lighter tackle and gear as I do, it seems counterintuitive.

If you typically fish with lighter reels in the 2500 or lighter range, you may find these handles to be a bit clunky.

This is not necessarily a dealbreaker but it is something that will take getting used to.

I hate ball handles so obviously have a different shaped hand to all the people who like them . I have two 4000 size Daiwas with them that came standard on the reels , and to me they feel unnatural compared to a T handle.
In regards to the comment that they “provide more torque’ what are you using it for , a boat winch ? Don’t you pump your rod and wind on the downstroke ? The only time a real is under torque load is when a fish is taking line or when you pump your rod , in which case you shouldn’t be turning the handle .
One last thing . If ball handles are so good , why don’t they use them on the best and most expensive reels you can buy? ie Daiwa saltiga , Shimano stella . Go figure

Just a quick note, I do not have the handles, I only have the knobs on 2 of my reels. For me, it was the fact that over time after hundreds of casts, I found it much more comfortable and less fatigue on my hands than the paddle style knobs. I have them on my Ballistic and my Certate, my Saltist MQ already came equipped with this feature. I realized after catching larger fish (oversized red/black drum) in the bays, it was well worth the expense, which is not bad at all, especially for the comfort aspect. While fishing the Matagorda Jetty, I was on a good trout bite, nothing huge but solid 18″ to 24″ and after landing a dozen or so, I clued in to the fact my right hand (reeling hand) wasn’t fatigued in the least, wound up also catching a few reds in the 24″-26″ range and kept a tab on how my hand was feeling, and it was solid. All fish were caught in a 2 hour time frame tossing a heavy spoon, I say that to give you an idea of how many casts were thrown. I really like the knobs for that reason, also, I used them for a month straight fishing hours at a time and did not have a problem with binding at all. I’d say if you notice your reeling hand/fingers are fatiguing after a while, you might want to try adding this product to your reel and see how much it helps, at the very least, it won’t hurt your set up.

Thanks for the review Pat. I was thinking of buying one and you bring up some points that I would not have considered. Very helpful.

Hey Pat, a couple years ago I got a small reel handle knob from Gomexus for my Fuego 2500. The button that covers the screw for the handle came off and I knew it would get filled with debris, so I got the gomexus nstead of buying a new reel. It’s worked fine and is about the same size as the original knob. I have a photo if you’d like for me to send it to you. I don’t see a way to attach it here. I’ve been real happy with it, and it helps me identify that rig quickly on the water, since I have several Fuegos on my identical TFO rods.

Great review. I have a gomexus power knob on every reel I own now. I have larger hands and the factory handles always felt uncomfortable. I’ve had most of them for at least a year or two and they have held up nicely. I only buy the knob part though and I try to pair an appropriately sized knob depending on the reel size so my 2500’s have the smallest knob size available. I haven’t tried the complete handle before but it makes sense that it would be a negative if the handle was too long on a small reel. Love the review though, nice video.

I think this accessory would work best for people with big hands. I see some people who fish with reels that have the smaller handles (typically seen on Quantum reels and KastKing) and the taller people look like they are pinching the handle because it is so small.

A fair and balanced review, Pat. I installed one about 2 yrs. ago on a 2500 series reel. You summed up the negatives for that sized reel. If fishing with a 4000 series or larger reel, more positives come into play. There’s probably some logic to why reel mfgs. rarely install those type ball handles on their smaller series reels, and cost is not it as it wouldn’t need to be a fashion statement like the beautifully milled Gomexus.
