Why Many Fishing Reports Feel Smart but Lead to Guessing

Fishing reports are SUPPOSED to make planning easier.
Sometimes, they do the opposite.
They show the result, but not the reasoning.
The outcome, but not the setup.
So when you try to apply them to your own trip, you are left filling in the blanks.
That is why two anglers can fish the same area on the same tide and have completely different days.
I made this video to show you how to separate useful fishing reports from noise.
See the trap to avoid below.
Featured Software:
Insiders, you can find detailed, pattern-based reports by turning on Insider Reports & Spot Dissections.
Key Takeaways:
- Most fishing reports sound helpful but leave out the details that actually matter
- Knowing where someone caught fish matters far less than knowing why they were there
- Vague timing and conditions force you to guess instead of plan
- Spot names feel useful, but they rarely explain fish behavior
- If a report cannot be applied somewhere else, it is not intel
- The difference between confidence and frustration often comes down to missing context
Fish smarter. Not harder. 👊

Good stuff Tony. This will help my posts in the future.
Glad it can help!
Great advice Tony! I like keying in on at least two of the four points as you mentioned. Also think it is important to read between the lines on valuable reports and learn to apply the information to new spots as you stated. Definitely not the particular spot as much as trends that will put numbers as well as quality fish in the kayak. Thanks so much for putting this together.
You’re welcome Fred, and thank you for the great feedback!
Thanks for the info Tony. I’ll try to do better.
You’re welcome Terry!
TY Tony! Great info and I def need improvement on reports! 👊
You’re welcome George!
Thanks for some good info.
You’re welcome Troy!
Great point Tony in all my reports I try at least at the end what the weather was like even including the water temps at the beginning and end of the trip what bait was noticed in the area and what lure or lures were used to mimic the hatch so to speak as well as the wind speed( best guess) what tide phase was happening and specific cover that the fish were relating to when caught and while im no problem im very detailed in all my reports im not bragging by no means I guess its just my baby boomer generation where importance is always in the details you know what I mean because I know you have read and commented on alot of my reports here in northeast fl thanks for the ALWAYS valuable intel because you surely earn your paycheck what saltstrong pays you for being an awesome coach love you guys and thanks for what you do😉👍
Thank you for the great feedback Steven!
You can expect a great fishing report from captains even when it’s lousy.
For sure! It’s more on us to really put it to work and interpret it.
Thanks, Tony! Super useful info! 😎🎣🧂💪🏻
You’re welcome James!
Excellent video Tony! There can be some people that are afraid to give specific information about where and what was working, because they might give away that ‘special’ spot.
But they don’t realize that the spot might be know by a lot of people and they fish it.
For sure! In reality, giving away a “spot” is less valuable than actually mentioning the how and why. Fish move constantly inshore. they could be there one day and gone the next.
Very good video Tony and thanks for sharing with us …. The information in my opinion was Spot On …………. !
Thank you Thomas!
