If you fish long enough, a broken rod tip is almost inevitable. The good news is, fixing it isn’t complicated or costly. In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to replace your tip guide, so you can save your rod (and your wallet) instead of tossing it out.
Did you know we now sell individual replacement sections for the Slam Stick Traveler? If you ever damage or misplace a piece, you can grab just what you need, or even pick up an extra handle section to turn your Traveler into two complete rods.

Thanks Pat! Perfect timing. Just cracked my tip on my Slot Machine this past weekend. Blank is fine but the cracked porcelain cuts the braid every cast. Now I can fix it! Thanks again!
They are pretty easy to replace as you can see. You can order a direct replacement from Mudhole if you want a match
Job well done Pat …. Very good video and excellent presentation of the do’s and don’t’s of the replacement of the rod tip ….. !
Thank you sir!
Thanks for the tips Pat! I broke about 4 inches off a TFO Pro a year or so ago and a co-worker did a really nice job of getting it back in action. Will defininitely be referencing this video if I have to do one myself.
Hopefully you will never need it but now you have it just in case!
in the picture you show that the rod broke just above the guide and just below the tip. Since you can’t glue the tip just above the existing guide, I guess you have to remove the guide or cut the rod just below the guide and attach a new tip that would have to be larger since the diameter of rod would be greater. How about a video showing the community how to accomplish this.
Here’s the longer version of the video that explains what you’re asking about:

Its always disheartening when I break a rod tip. Thanks for sharing your technique for repairing them. I have noticed the action of the rod is definitely changed after a break and repair. Based on the length broken off, the action change can be quite significant. Do you have any reccomendations for a gusset repair or some other techniques that could salvage a rod from a significant break?
You’re 100% correct on that! The tip that broke off on this rod was only an inch and a half, I can tell quite a bit of a difference.
I watched a video about the type of repair you’re asking about. It involved using a solid graphite rods inserted into each piece and glued back together. Then they wrapped the repair with matching thread. It looked a little weird with the tread in an odd location but the rod seem to flex as it should.
One thing that I do is use some wire heat shrink when I fix the tip. It helps me to secure the tip in case the glue does not hold down the road
That’s a great tip! Thanks for sharing!
You made the repair look easy. I hope I don’t have to use this information anytime soon. Thanks Pat.
Kind of like car insurance, good to have it but hope to never use it!
Thanks for watching!
