Light vs. Dark Lure Color Experiment For Inshore Slams [Round 1 Results]

Have you ever been uncertain about which color lure to use when targeting redfish, seatrout, and snook?

Well that’s our quest with this series of color experiments which are focused on light vs. dark to make sure that we all know when each one is best.

This first round provided some telling results that are different from what most people think.

Below is video from day 1 of this experiment where you can see how it works along with eye-opening findings at the end.

Note: I have been out a couple time since, and the surprising color findings explained at the end of this video have been consistent.

If you want to try the same Tweaker from this test, it’s featured in our Winter Bundle… and we’re including a FREE premium lure with it for a limited time.

Featured Gear

Featured Rig

The Sidekick Rig is being used in this experiment because it allows both lures to be in the same area at the same time with the same retrieve (the most fair way we can think of to conduct a color test).

Note: Please use the Comments section below if you have any ideas on how this test could be improved.

Conclusion

Although this test did reaffirm the fact that putting yourself in a good spot trumps worrying about selecting the first color given that these 2 very different colors both caught fish.

It did reveal an interesting finding in the light color seeming to work best in low light conditions while the dark out did better when the sun was shining bright… for many years, I thought the exact opposite was true.

I’ve had a couple more chances to use this rig since filming this video, and the results have been similar (full report coming soon).

Very interesting study, but in the Texas Galveston Bay system, our water is pretty murky (usually about 6 in to 1 ft depth visibility). I’ll have to try this to see which one is better for murky water.

Do you think that you catch more fish using the double rig than you would with either single rig? I wonder if there is some additional predator attraction by presenting them with two baits rather than one

Hey Luke…. If you can have ONLY 1 spinning rod, for inshore fishing, targeting snook, redfish and trout, with artificial lures… what exact specifications that rod would have?? (Regardless brand name) Length? Power ? Action ? Reel size ? (Regardless brand name)

Hi Luke! Great video and insight on the sidekick rig. I noticed you used Pro Cure instead of Dr. Juice in the video, is that because the inshore slam scent hasn’t been available lately?
