Mullet vs. Slam Shady: Which Actually Catches More Fish?

With our Mullet HD patterns hitting the lineup, I decided to run a fair head-to-head test against the original Slam Shady. Both are proven producers, but would lifelike detail actually make a difference?

Final Thoughts

The Mullet HD brought in more species variety, while the Slam Shady actually caught more fish overall — even in clear water. The real difference wasn’t color, though. Every strike came from proper positioning, retrieve cadence, and structure selection.

So, if you’re choosing between the two, it’s less about what color you throw… and more about where and how you throw it.

We were out the other day and the trout bite was on fire. I was using a few different paddle tails (slam shady mulligan, new penny and mulletron diesel minnow). They seemed to prefer the slam shady by far.

The Skinny Lipper XL in Slam Shady has been my go to lure for trout and red fish lately due to the high water, winds and waves.
