The 5 Most Important Spots to Oil on Your Reel

Keeping your spinning reel running smooth and quiet isn’t complicated, but a lot of anglers skip over key maintenance steps—especially when it comes to oiling the right spots. A few drops in the right areas can extend the life of your reel and keep it feeling brand new every time you hit the water.
In my latest video, I break down the 5 most important spots you need to oil to prevent stiffness, wear, and corrosion. Most people miss at least one of these!
Some areas might be obvious… like the handle. But what about the part of the reel that takes the most abuse? Or a small but critical spot that ensures your line flows smoothly? I’ll show you exactly where to oil and how to do it right, watch the video above!
And if you’re in the market for a smooth, high-quality spinning reel, do yourself a favor and check out the Otis 2500 over at FishStrong.com. It’s built to last—just give it the maintenance it deserves, and it’ll take care of you on the water.
Tight lines!

“You can use any type of reel oil?” Some reel oils are not the best. You want to use specific type of reel oil that is best for salt water environments. You want to only be using specific types of oils that cover and provide the following:
-Synthetic oil that will reduce friction better and longer than regular oil
–Synthetic oil will bond better to metal than regular oil
-Synthetic oil that will not degrade and turn black over time
-Specific oils that clarify they are safe which won’t hurt plastics of paints
-Specific oils will not fly off as much as regular oil
-Specific oils that provide rust resistance
-Specific oils that provide corrosion resistance
So which oil has all this, Liberty Triple Elite Oil is one of them and the one in the video Lucas Reel oil is another. Good recommendation.
Don’t just use regular oils or reel oils that that don’t have all of the above. 😊
Also the reel oil on the vide is the incorrect one. This is the correct Lucas reel oil:
