In this video, I break down the biggest money-wasting mistakes I’ve made (and that most anglers make) so you can avoid the traps.
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- Why trying to buy gear that does it all is a terrible idea
- The costly mistake of over-accessorizing your boat or kayak

I love it! I’ve been a member of Salt Strong for a long time. I remember when Luke said all you needed was Gulp Shrimp and a jig. Now Salt Strong tries to sell me a new and different lure every week! Don’t get me wrong I’m still a big fan.
Lol, I’m with ya! “Slamshady 2.0 1/8th and 3/16th hook covers all” I’ve found that pretty true but I gotta say I can’t blame them for adding colors, so many people roll their eyes at me for using one color but I catch as many fish and certainly save a ton of money and time experimenting with colors all day
I’ve beenYes, I’ve been guilty of the same thing, thinking that my goodness. One thing is going to do it all, but it doesn’t sometimes do things better and why he said he had 1 idea. Go out there and try and stick with it. I have something else with it. You know, every professional person out there. Golfer of a Tennis player or anything. He hits thousands a balls. How many cash are we doing today? To get to the right practice and all of us I think we’re guilty of that
Yes, I’m a victim too. I have a box full of artificial worms, minnows, shrimp , and wannabees. Every color shape and size. Same with fishing line.😥
Well pat that’s one of the main reasons I love to fish so much is because it can be as simple and cheap or very technical and as exspensive as one wants it but you do have to remember in this age of social media posts and everyone needing attention no matter undortunatly how they get it either right or wrong I have seen alot of anglers out there with a pocket full of money obviously by looking at there rig they use and own and there truck whatever and yet when asking these anglers in numerous occasions alot of them caught squat nothing nada zero but they still keep going showing off to everyone there exspensive equipment but lacking the common sence and knowledge of using it right in the conditions they fish in and why do you ask? It’s because it’s the image and attention they gain from it all it’s how they show off and get noticed for doing it i remember a time last year where I heard a boat approaching my area that I could not see right away because the angler was coming around a creek bend out of my view of sight and I actually could hear his stereo playing even before I heard his very loud 400hp mercury verado outboard when he passed me he finally stopped a couple hundred yards from me roaring up to the area that I guessed he wanted to fish slamming his trolling motor down still playing his music so loud I could literally feel the vibrations in my boat!!! So obviously what does that tell you? He just wants everyone to notice him and obviously really has no skills as an experienced angler but thats today’s world but me I always use the analogy of if everyone else jumps over the cliff I’ll just stand there on the edge waiving goodbye and then walk in the opposite direction because I’m no crowd follower and what others do if I think and know its not right I do what my father always taught me to do and thats use MY common sence and know that at least 95 percent of the time it won’t fail me unline the others that only do things for recognition praise or simply because everyone else is doing it enough said thanks for the info pat and all you do🤔😉👍
First time I went to Florida bought every lure but tried to catch Snook sea trout Redfish at same time didn’t work needed to take my time and the fish are in different areas lesson learned never caught till next year
Yes sir! Even the “best” lures won’t catch anything if you’re not in the right spot!
Awesome advice!!!!!!!
Thanks Daniel!
Best advice from this video is fish it first! Well done Pat.
Thanks Erik! Made that mistake several times!
Thanks, Pat. I appreciate taking a cautious approach on purchasing, be it rods, tackle, or kayak accoutrements. Tight lines!
I have had a tendency in the past to go all in on whatever I did and that can add up quickly! Lessons learned for sure.
Great points Pat! Thanks for the reminders!
Thanks JD!
Thanks for the reminder !!!
Less is often times more !!!
I’ve been accustomed to fresh water where one style will do most all you fish for . Whereas down here on the nature coast one size doesn’t seem to fit that mold .. I’m encouraged to see people willing to help !!
