Stop Losing Rattles! Try This Simple Hook Hack
- By: Tony Acevedo

Rattles are a great addition to soft plastic lures to help draw in fish from a distance and/or in murky water.
However, you face a few issues and challenges when using them:
- They tend to easily fall out of the lure.
- You lose them when you lose a lure.
- You have to swap out the rattle when you change a lure.
In this video I’ll be showing an easy trick to add a rattle to your hook, which can be a better alternative than adding them into your lure.
Enjoy!

Excellent idea? I think it’d be a good idea to test this setup against the rattle being put in the body of the lure. See if one performs any better than the other one. Thank you sir!
Thank you for the great feedback Kevin! I also thought about maybe using a red tubing which could simulate injury and see how it performs against the black.
Thanks Tony, I shared this with members of our Nature Coast Chapter. And they really liked it.
Awesome! You’re welcome Ricky!

This is a gr8 idea Tony!
already have the heat shrink with my solderless connecters
Thanks
Thanks Jim!
very creative! Thank you Tony
curious if some kind of super glue adhesive would work?
It can help keep the rattle inside a lure a bit longer, but again if you lose the lure off the hook you lose the rattle as well.
If you are talking about gluing the glass rattle directly to the hook.. it hasn’t ever worked well for me. I’ve tried several different types of glue/adhesive and not many things bond with glass well. I was able to get a 2 part epoxy to work, but when you compare it to how easy heat shrink tubing is.. it’s really not worth the time, and doesn’t look nearly as neat.
You’re welcome Rodney!
Love the hack. I quit using the rattles before because it was such a pain.
Hopefully this helps!
Good tip Tony. I’ll try the rattle addition. Thanks
You’re welcome Ron!
