The EASIEST Way to Catch Blue Crabs – Works EVERY TIME!

If you’ve ever wanted to catch blue crabs but thought it was too complicated or required expensive gear, think again!

In this quick tutorial, I’m going to show you the simplest way to get on those tasty (for you, or the redfish) blue crabs with minimal effort and maximum results.

All you need is some chicken necks, a string, and a dip net. That’s it! No traps, no fancy equipment—just good ol’ DIY crabbing that anyone can do. Whether you’re looking to stock up on crabs for dinner or grab some bait for your next fishing trip, this method works almost anywhere there’s brackish water.

Here’s what I’ll cover in the video:
✔️ How to set up your crabbing rig with stuff you probably already have at home
✔️ Pro tips for spotting when a crab is on the line
✔️ The best way to net crabs without spooking them
✔️ How to safely handle these feisty critters

I even share a sneaky trick for using the crab’s instincts against them, so you’ll never leave empty-handed.

This is crabbing made simple. No stress, no mess

👇 Watch the full video below to see the method in action!

Great Tips! I grew up in Charleston, SC. We caught crabs all the time! I loved catching them. We would catch a #2 tub full and go home and cook them in a big black kettle pot outside. We would share with neighbors. My mom would sit with us while we picked the crabs to keep us from eating too much of the meat! Lol..I miss living on the coast. I am happy you spoke about the small areas of water like the big ditches that connected to a waterway. We would buy the chicken necks a day or two ahead of time and leave them outside in the heat. They didn’t smell good, but the crabs loved them!

Thanks for the video. I have caught crabs that way before and like a lot of things I got away from that way. I can and will take grandchildren to catch them. But as stated in comments, I will check out the regulations. Thanks again and Tight Lines! 🎣

Where can you get chicken necks from?

you shouldn’t keep females and none with eggs, you didn’t show or discuss any of that as well as size requirements in certain states..

Just not that easy.. Need to check your state regulations to see if a crabbing license is needed. Need to check the regulations for equipment, size and type restrictions. There may be certain regulations for hard crabs (Jimmy), soft crabs and peeler crabs. Hard crabs and soft crabs are used for consumption and peeler crabs are used for bait. Every thing should be spelled out in the regulations. Here’s what we have in Maryland. https://dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/pages/regulations/blue-crab.aspx

awesome! would love to see more of this type of thing. Maybe how to catch fiddler crabs? I know of some spots that are good for crabs but is there anything like a 90/10 zone for them too?
