Your Fish-Catching PROBLEM Isn’t Your Lure… It’s This
- By: Joseph Simonds
- on
You tie on a lure that SHOULD work.
You’ve seen the photos.
You’ve watched the videos.
And yet… nothing.
Because there is no “ONE lure” that works everywhere.
No shortcut.
No magic fix.
Watch as Luke and I break down what actually needs to match up for fish to commit… and why even a “perfect” lure can fall apart when something’s just a little off.
FEATURED SOFTWARE:
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
- There’s no “one trick lure”… everything depends on the situation
- Location, conditions, and timing all have to line up
- The same lure can work great… then completely stop working
- Fish behavior changes throughout the day, and you need to adjust
- Spooking fish will shut everything down fast
FINAL THOUGHTS
Most anglers keep searching for the better lure.
But the anglers who figure this out…
Stop searching.
They start matching.
Matching the spot.
Matching the conditions.
Matching the moment.
And that’s when things start to feel a whole lot easier.

Great podcast, one question, Luke recommends starting out with 2 lures the 2.0 paddletail and the prawn Jr. I have used the mulligan since it became available. Am I actually better off going back to the 2.0? I still consider myself a beginner after almost 5 years as a VIP member, it’s me mot SS.
Thanks Joe and Luke great video
Thanks guys. VG info. Do you have an updated spreadsheet that shows the lures and situations to use them?
Here’s a link to a very helpful post in our Fishing School that explains when each lure is at its best (plus links to lessons for how to retrieve them):

Excellent discussion. I am thinking more and more lately that my approach is what has gotten me skunked consistently more than anything else. Especially if I spook them, stay there less than 30 minutes because of inactivity, then head to another spot only to the same thing there.
Agree with everyone who has already posted…great video as always. I’ve used Smart Spots for years but there still is nuggets there like the Fishing Plan that you guys show us. I’m gonna try this out next week when I’m fishing in Mississippi. Thanks guys
You two continue to be the best. You both deserve the success you have enjoyed. If I wasn’t so old (79) I would attempt to fish with one or both of you just once. Tight lines!
