This catch is a prime example of how not to panic but to instead remain patient and calmly battle the fish.

If you are using light inshore saltwater tackle to hunt big game fish, then these tips are essential to maintaining a strong connection without putting too much pressure on the fish.

When fighting big fish from a kayak or paddlecraft, you are most likely going to get towed around.

The main thing you need to focus on keeping your rod low and at an angle away from the fish.

This lets you put pressure on the fish without adding too much tension to the line.

If you keep your fishing rod vertical in the air, the fish will tire out slower extending the time you have to fight it.

Additionally, turning and positioning yourself sideways to the fish creates more resistance against the fish.

The part that you do not want to and cannot rush is landing the fish.

This fish was caught using a simple frozen shrimp rig that we typically suggest to rig on jigheads or bait hooks.

What did you make of that insane catch?!?!

Battling big fish when you don’t anticipate it beforehand can be quite the surprise but it is no reason to panic.

Remember to stay calm, take your time, and maintain pressure on the fish to tire it out and land them!
