4 Spring Fishing Situations (And What To Throw In Each)

Spring fishing can mess with your head.

One day it feels easy… the next day nothing makes sense.

Same area.

Same tide.

Completely different results.

For a long time, I thought I just “wasn’t on the fish.”

Turns out… I was just fishing the wrong situation.

Final Thoughts

Spring fishing doesn’t have to feel complicated.

When you understand the key situations fish move through this time of year, and have a simple set of lures to match, you can eliminate a lot of the guesswork and start fishing with confidence.

Instead of constantly switching baits, focus on reading the water, identifying what the fish are doing, and applying the right tool for the job.

That’s when things start to click.

Great stuff Pat! One lure I like to run is the wake baits, fat lipper or the regular ones! It’s a lure that can act like a suspension bait and still makes a lot of noise/ vibration that triggers strikes, on the surface or below! My two cents! Love your videos! Take care!

I recently purchased the Slam Stick Travel and have only an opportunity to use it once on a very windy day with churned up water and lots of seaweed at San Loui Pass Tx under the bridge. It does indeed cast great but there was so much suspended weed in the current it wasn’t fun fishing and I only had a few hours to fish before going to work. I’m curious has any one done a side by side comparison between the one piece Slam Stick and the Slam Stick Travel Rod? It sure is a great rod to keep in my 4 Runner when I’m working near the coast beats having to haul my slot machine and other rods in and out of the truck and hotel room.

I joined the insiders club many months ago for the express purpose of learning as much as I can before our family vacation in mid-May. We’re driving down from the Carolinas to Cape San Blas where we have been many times before. Depending on the wind strength & direction when we’re there, my son and I will be fishing mostly with soft plastics from the beach in the gulf or wading / kayaking in St Joe Bay. Just hoping the tides & weather cooperate with our narrow fishing windows between family time with the grandkids and their parents. 🤞😜😄
Any advice y’all might have will surely be welcomed.

The transition is tricky. The winds have been crazy last 3 weeks. I’m all about Tarpon now. With the occasional Snook and Red! Hard plugs are great in chop and wind. When the fish are fired up. I’ve found a plug to be more effective that big paddle tail. Thanks Pat.

I’m a soft bait paddle tail kind of guy, but the flea flicker has got my attention lately.
