The Only 2 Lures You Actually Need For Redfish, Seatrout, & Flounder

The biggest mistake that most saltwater fishermen make is overestimating how picky the fish actually are.

I spent many thousands of dollars on cast nets and lures before I finally realized the truth…

The truth is that saltwater ambush predators like redfish, seatrout, snook, and flounder aren’t very picky at all, most of the time.

Once I finally got smart with lure selection by only using a very small assortment of lures that were uniquely good at maximizing time in the best strike zones, my catch rate skyrocketed.

It got to the point where I stopped bringing a cast net altogether. My tackle bag got smaller, my approach got simpler, and I started catching more fish.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this lesson:

  • Which lures you need for inshore slams (only 2)
  • How to simplify terminal tackle for maximized results
  • How to easily match the lures to your conditions
  • How to rig lures for depth control while being weedless

Note: If you’re a live bait angler who is curious to start using lures, then make sure to give them a shot now because they will often out-catch live bait.

Recommended Rod, Reel, & Line

There of course, are thousands of rods, reels, and lines to select from. In general, we recommend using medium power rods with as light of line as you feel comfortable with for handling your target species.

Since these lures have various weights, we recommend using spinning tackle to make it very easy to go from one lure to the other. Medium power rods with a fast action blank that’s 7′ to 7’6″ work great with these lures. And pairing your rod of choice with a 2500 size reel and 10 lb braid is tough to beat.

Having success in catching quality fish on lures requires a good rod, reel, and line setup. The most important of the 3 by far is the rod when using lures. This is because the rod controls the most important factors, such as casting distance, retrieving the lures, feeling strikes, setting the hook, and controlling the fish during the battle.

Final Thoughts

Saltwater fishing success is all about being able to find the fish.

As long as you have a good lure that at least somewhat resembles something they eat, you’ll be getting some nice catches.

The catch results will get better in terms of quantity and quality as you maximize your lure’s bottom time in and around structure such as oysters, rocks, seagrass, pilings, etc., so you might as well spend most (if not all) of your time with weedless lures.

If you’re interested in getting more comfortable using lures, then make sure to give these lures a try with the tips explained in this video.

For details on exactly how to use each of the lures, you can find links to video lessons in the product pages for each of the products in our tackle store called Fish Strong.
