the luckiest fisherman alive

Huge congratulations to Staff Sergeant Scott Lilley of the United States Air Force (retired) for winning the all-expense paid fishing trip in March, hosted by Salt Strong!

Scott, the entire Salt Strong team can’t wait to create some amazing experiences for you and your friend this March (and hopefully catch a fish or thirty…).

Scott Lilley’s Story

Scott joined the Air Force in October of 1999.

His first duty of assignment was at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico followed by a tour at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.

After Germany, Scott went to Minot Air Force Base.

Then while at Minot AFB, he was deployed to Afghanistan for six months to serve at a detainee facility.

He was later deployed to Iraq for a year where Scott was almost fatality injured…

Lilley was riding in the turret of a humvee when a roadside bomb went off to the left of the vehicle.

Scott was hit with shrapnel (part of which is still in his head), he suffered major head trauma (to the point they didn’t think he was going to live), went into a coma, and his next memory after that dreadful day was waking up at the National Naval Medical Center following cranioplasty surgery four months later.

After a long recovery, Scott returned to active duty until his medical retirement on December, 2010.

Even President George W. Bush took a special interest in Lilley.

He called Lilley on the phone while hospitalized, and even invited him to the White House several times.

Scott now lives in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Candace and their three children.

We are so excited to be able to give back to someone that put their life on the line for our freedom, and we look forward to seeing you soon Scott.
