When you’re using artificial lures it’s best not to use a circle hook.

Our instinct is to set the hook when we’re retrieving a lure.

But you never want to set the hook on a circle hook because you’ll pull the hook out of the fish’s mouth.

If you’re letting a lure sit on the bottom waiting for a fish to pick it up, these work great!

I mainly use circle hook jig heads with live bait or cut bait.

You never want to use a j-hook with live or cut bait because you may gut hook a fish.

A circle hook goes right to the corner of a fish’s mouth after they pick up the bait.

Also, the weight of a circle hook jig head keeps your bait in one spot on the bottom (perfect for potholes).

They can also be used for trolling with bait!

I use circle hooks all the time for plastic baits. Just as I learned to set the hook when I was 8 years old (62 years ago), when fishing with circle hooks, I’ve learned NOT set the hook. Just lift the rod and reel em in. It is very do-able . 🙂

Any problems with getting hung up with this rig? Especially around oyster bars? I’ve been using Luke’s weedless shrimp rig, but I do end up gut fishing a few fish. I guess due to the j hook. Thanks Tony love your videos

Thanks, Tony! I didn’t know these existed either. As you mentioned, they would be good for dragging a line behind the kayak on the way back home.

Please advise the company name of the Circle Head Jigs you are demonstrating. And will you be selling them in the on-line store?
