What’s the EASIEST method for targeting pompano around bridges???
YouTuber Thonny took me out to some nearby bridges to see if we could hook into pompano using super small jigs.
This was my first ever trip specifically dedicated to targeting pompano.

To begin with, the strategy was to target nearby bridges because they create constriction zones where current flow is elevated.
Of course, the day we decide to target pompano is the day where we experience little to zero current flow.
The small pompano jigs we were using also proved to work for sea bass, pinfish, and anything else in the area.
After I hooked into a small sheepshead at bridge #1, we made our way over to a larger bridge.
We really worked this bridge closely and changed depths to cover the entire water column.
But still, we did not find any pompano there.
So we picked up and moved to bridge #3 where the action finally started to pick up.
The sun was poking through the clouds and the current flow started to move a bit more.
We caught a lot of pigfish at this bridge – they just kept hitting the pompano jigs!
Thonny reassured me the pompano would be on their way if we just kept casting and working the jigs.
Sure enough, I caught my first pompano using a pompano jig!
We ended the day catching a few shorts but then I finally hooked into a much nicer fish to bring home for dinner!!
Tackle & Key Takeaways
The pompano jigs proved to catch not just pompano but a WHOLE bunch of different species.
Thonny had suggested we tie the small teaser that rests above the main hook to a loop knot instead of the factory-ready split rings that it normally is sold on.
The specific jigs I tied on were Doc’s Goofy Jigs.
Moreover, the big takeaway from the trip was finding ideal pompano habitats.
Target incoming current flow areas with clean water or constriction zones.
As far as the setup I was using, I used the same gear as a normal inshore flats fishing trip for redfish, snook, seatrout, etc.
Put yourself in these high-quality zones and spend some time working the jigs until you find the pompano.
