Turn ANY Floating Plug Into a Suspending Lure (Easy Trick!)

Want to catch more fish without changing lures?

There’s a decades-old trick, one most anglers still don’t know, that can turn a regular floating lure into a serious fish catcher.

With just a tiny adjustment, you can make your lure suspend or slowly sink, keeping it in the strike zone longer and triggering more bites. The best part? It’s simple, effective, and works wonders when fish stop feeding on the surface.

Key Takeaways

  • You can easily turn a floater diver into a suspending or sinking plug using Storm Suspend Strips or Dots.
  • Adjust placement of the strips to control sink rate and balance, a little trial and error goes a long way.
  • Floating lures work best when fish are aggressive and feeding upward.
  • Suspending or sinking lures shine when fish are neutral or inactive, holding deeper in the water column.

Final Thoughts

Having two versions of the same plug, one floating and one modified with suspend strips, lets you adjust instantly when fish behavior changes. It’s one of the easiest hacks to keep a productive bite going longer.

If you haven’t tried this yet, give it a shot next trip and see how those fish react when your lure stays right in their face.

Great tip! Will it stick to a lure that has ever had Dr. Juice on it? That stuff is hard to remove!

Oh yea i use them unfortunatly though after a couple fish hit the plug they tend to come off i have also found the same results can be achieved by wrapping a couple turns around the hook shanks with some lead soldering wire which actually seems to work better because its more secure and using the hooks versus the body for placement the balance seems to be better especially on the middle hook because usually the center of the plug is right inline with the front hook thanks for the info and all you do
