Key Takeaways
- Using the 1-foot contour layer can help you find the steep ledges where trout are more likely to hold. Steep ledges show up as contour lines that are very close together.
- The contour lines also help you see how water flows so you can determine where current breaks create ambush points.
- You can change the color of the contour lines so they’re easier for you to see.

Trying to figure out how to use all the information
Looks like a lot of helpful information
This was great, thank you. Is there a way to save a location on the app? Like if you’re out of town and want to show somebody your home fishing location current conditions, etc?
You’re welcome drew! You can make a tide station a “favorite” by pulling up the tide chart and clicking on the star icon in the top right of the tide screen.
Thanks
You’re welcome!
I was trying to leanr how to change the color of the contour lines, Tony jumped over that pretty quickly in the video.
Once you have the contour line layer selected, click the right side of the contour layer box (2 small white boxes appear) and additional options will pop up.
Thanks Tony. That app is great, but I don’t think the 1’ contour is accurate, I use it to find the deeper cuts later in the day and it’s saying it shallow and I know it’s deeper cause I fished the cut and lure is gone deeper than it says 🤷🏼♂️
I don’t pay too much attention to the specific numbers as it can vary as bottom conditions can constantly change. I look more for how far apart or close together the lines are. The closer they are, the quicker the depth changes.
👍thanks Tony. Always helpful
You’re welcome Norman!
Tony,
I have a new iPhone and upload the latest version of the app when available… Im here in SC lowcountry, as I try to use this app on my phone, specifically, Im looking at the upper saltwater stretches of the Cooper River, 1 ft contour and smart spots selected, the app will suddenly disappear. In addition, any way to filter out out-dated posts on the app?
Good info! Is there a tutorial for the application?
Thanks Keith! Yes we have tutorials for members here on the different tools and features:

Great tips on using the app. Thanks!
Thank you for the great feedback Jerry!
I guess maybe because I fish only in northeast fl in about 4 to 6 areas exclusively I don’t use the smart spots app so much because I have fished these certain areas for at least 20 years now I pretty much know where all the depth changes are as well as when these spots are most productive like for instance for years I used to do alot of my posts in millcove especially the night fishing in the summer months well unfortunatly now this area is no longer my favorite night spot anymore and I believe that’s because over the years this place has gotten a heck of alot more fishing pressure then in previous years past so yes while I do still fish it just not so much in the summer months anymore it’s a great fall and spring as well as a somewhat good winter area just not so much at night anymore in the summer months so I have moved to a location that even looks better for night fishing with tons of docks with good depth and structure and even better no fishing pressure at night it gets hit pretty hard in and throughout the day but about 98 percent of the time at the launch at night I’m the only angler there and that’s just the way I like it ha ha thanks for the info and all you do
Florida got a big surge in population during the whole Covid phase. A lot of people got into fishing during that time as well since there really wasn’t anything else to do. I see a lot of people on the water but I still fish my same areas and do well. Not so much about the spot, but knowing how to fish it and when to go there.
