Using Sea Surface Temperature Charts For Surf & Nearshore Fishing
This video is all about how to use sea surface temperature charts to determine when and where you should fish along the coastline.
Everything from cobia to tripletail, to kingfish to bluefish cruise up and down the shoreline, however, sea surface temperature has a lot to do with dictating WHERE that bite will be.
This applies to the entire year and is quite a useful tool for surf and nearshore anglers.
Take a look!!
How To Use Sea Surface Temperature Charts [VIDEO]
Water temperature has A LOT to do with where different species of fish are going to be at different times of the year.
And water temperature is easy to see in seconds using our Smart Fishing Spots App (ONLY available to Insider Members!).
At the time of filming this video, temperatures off the coast of North Florida were ranging between the 50s and low 70s.
What does that directly have to do with targeting different species?
Let’s take Cobia for example.
You can normally find Cobia up and down the shoreline when sea surface temperatures are in the 68-70 degree range.
Using the map key in the top right-hand corner of Smart Fishing Spots, you can quickly identify where the water matches that temperature and have a better idea of where those fish will be.
So based on the sea surface temperature readings, Cobia would likely be in the ideal water temperature just off the coast.
As we move into the summertime, these fish will start heading North.
The yellow colors indicating higher sea surface temperatures are going to slowly creep up into northern waters.
Keep in mind, this does NOT only apply to the Atlantic coast of Florida!!
This concept holds true through the upper Atlantic coast and around the Gulf of Mexico.
If you are fishing from the surf, nearshore, or even offshore, this is an incredibly helpful tool.
Migratory species that move up and down the coast can be predictable with the right resources.
Sea surface temperatures are included along with a myriad of other features and resources in the Smart Fishing Spots platform.
