Looking for a waterproof tackle bag?
I was tired of coming home with a soggy tackle bag after my kayak trips thanks to rain or a rogue wave, so I decided to try out this Plano Z Series Waterproof Tackle Bag.
It’s been great, but of course, it’s not perfect.
So in this video, I’m breaking down the pros and cons of it.
I’ll also show you how big it is and what I put in it, so you can get a good feel if it’s right for you.

Here are the pros and cons of this bag:
Pros:
- Comes with 2 standard 3700 StowAway boxes
- Bottom of the bag is molded plastic, so you don’t have to worry about water soaking through the bottom
- Bag is made out of a PVC material, so water runs right off of it
- Has rubber feet, so it doesn’t slide around your deck
- 2 side pockets on the side made of rubber mesh for storage
- 2 clips to keep the top down so that you don’t have to worry about zippers
- The lid has some weight to it, so you don’t have to worry about it flying open when you open it
Cons:
- Not totally waterproof. If it goes overboard, water will get in it.
- If water does get in the bag, it’ll stay in there, so you need to make sure there’s none in there after your trip.
Here’s what I keep in this bag:
- 3600 waterproof box
- 3700 waterproof box
- Smaller box for my weights
- 2 waterproof boxes for Gulp
- Another container of Gulp
- Leader material
- A few bags of Alabama Leprechauns, Slam Shadys, and Power Prawns in the side pockets
And after all of this, I still have room for more in the bag.
Conclusion
I’ve really enjoyed the Plano Z Series Waterproof Tackle Bag.
It’s built with saltwater anglers in mind and has plenty of storage.

I just got this bag and transfered all my tackle. I’m confused as to what the front middle black piece is on the bag and there are also two more on the back? Can someone please tell me what they are for? Im hoping its for a cool additional attachment for the bag or something!
Hey Jacob! They are attachment points for straps so you can secure other items to it.
Great review Tony! I was looking at changing/reducing my tackle on the yak this year. I was wondering if this bag has changed the way you manage your tackle. I recall in the past you mentioned that you would only keep a single 3600 and store the soft plastics in the hatch of the yak.
I want this 3700 Bag. How/where do I order it ?
Hey Ned!
We are sold out of them on our shop, but they can be found on amazon as well:

Great reveiw, nice bag, but can the 3700’s placed in the bag on edge like a file folder so you can pull it straight out instead of having to remove everything to get to the 3700 on the bottom the way you had it loaded?
Hey Joseph!
Yes the trays can be laid flat or stood up on their sides and it will still hold 4 of them.
I purchased a SERIOLAPRO waterproof tackle bag last fall end love or. It has a few features that the Plano bag does not have. First the cover has a Velcro enclosure as well as the clips. It has a nylon cover inside the bag that also prevents water from entering the bag. There is an additional storage pouch on the front of the bag for those quick to grab items. Under the cover is a space to keep flat items like cash, license or ID. it has a plastic slider enclosure like a zip bag. The last advantage is it is under $55.00.
Good stuff Rick! I’ll have to check that one out!
How does it fit in the back well of our kayaks? Is it a tight squeeze? Is there any attachment points that I could run the rear bungee through to secure it in case of a tip over? I’ve been using an Engle hard cooler for a tackle box and I like it but I feel sometimes it’s too small. This looks like it will hold more. I just have to be careful not to turn more into too much.
Hey Pat! It fits right behind the seat in the tank. Those square patches on the front and back can actually be used to secure it down. There is one on the front of the bag and 2 on the back. I started using a bag now instead of just bringing a few boxes loose to keep everything together. Makes it much easier to keep everything in one place for when I go out on someone’s boat or fish from shore, etc.
Great Review Tony! I have an old Shimano bag(18 years) that works great but over the years I have accumulated TOO MUCH GEAR! This however might be good for a Day Tripper or maybe the 3600. I’ll check it out. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
Thank you for the great feedback Bob! You’re welcome!
For got to put in “Pockets” whoops
Hey Tony thanks for a good video on the Plano Z tackle bag.
You must have some big pockets if that box you described as a wallet size.
I would have told you, you must have Captain Kangaroo but you are too young to know who that is lol.
My pleasure Steve! Haha, well they call them “bait wallets” so we’ll just roll with that.
I really appreciate these product reviews coming from someone that’s actually used the product:) Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
My pleasure Andrew and thank you for the awesome feedback!
