Winter fishing after a cold front can feel like a game of hide-and-seek, but don’t let the conditions scare you off.
In my latest trip, I faced cold temps, low tides, and those pesky dolphins spooking fish—and still managed to pull off some great catches.
In this video, I’ll walk you through:
- How I scouted new water in Tampa Bay using Smart Fishing Spots.
- The exact lures I used, like the Polk County Tweaker and Prawn Jr.
- Why deep water and structure were the keys to success.
- A fun fight with a snook under the mangroves
This trip tested my patience, but the payoff was worth it. Whether you’re battling winter conditions or dodging dolphin drama, the tips I share in this video can help you stay on the fish as the temperatures drop.

Quick Tip for Cold-Front Success
When the water temps drop, fish gravitate to deep pockets and structure. Using tools like Smart Fishing Spots can give you the upper hand by highlighting these areas—even in murky water or unfamiliar spots.

What paddle board setup is that?
Dolphin marauders

Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Ted! Glad to see that you enjoyed this video.
That was a really fun video to watch. I need to get better at skipping lures, but I’m afraid to practice for fear of losing them! Off topic question though, at about the 8 min 10 sec mark, when you’re showing the snook, I saw a holder in the t-slot of your paddle board I’m assuming you use for your stick anchor. Where can I find those?
Those are designed for holding the paddle, but work for holding stick anchors too. I believe that I got it from yak attack.
