Slot Up vs. Slot Down: Rigging Soft Plastics for Better Hookups

When it comes to rigging soft plastic lures, one of the biggest questions we get is:
Should the slot face up or down?
That slit in the plastic is there for a reason. And the way you rig it can mean the difference between a clean hookup or missing the fish of a lifetime.
In the video below, you’ll learn:
- Why that slit exists in the first place
- The pros and cons of slot-up vs. slot-down rigging
- My personal go-to method for better hook sets

Conclusion
At the end of the day, both slot-up and slot-down can work. But from my testing, having the slit on the bottom (with the hook resting on top) gives me the best overall hookup ratio. Add in a skin hook for weedless rigging, and you’ve got a deadly setup for fishing under mangroves, docks, and grass.

Good info Luke. I use slit down also and fill it with pro cure or Dr juice.
Good information as always.
Slot side down for me as well. Great info
Good validation. I prefer slit down.
Great information.
I like mine slot down.
Slot down has helped me keep the hook in the middle of the lure
Thanks for the detail!,
I always rigged them slot side down but wondered why it was there. Thanks for teaching us the reason. I always learn something useful from you guys and all your videos.
Slot down for me works great.
