We all know that trout like to hang around on open flats or where there is thick seagrass for cover.
But, docks and rock walls are often overlooked for how productive they can be for catching BIG trout.
Trout are the definition of ambush predators in that they will sit and wait for bait to come to them.
Pier pilings or big rocks that give them an area to hide behind and ambush prey are ideal fishing locations.
Try to look for areas with sweeping current around piers, docks, rock walls, or even points.
The fish will stack up down current as they wait for the current to take the bait to them.

The main thing to remember when targeting speckled trout is that they are ambush predators and prefer to hide behind structure to wait for bait to come to them.
Don’t overlook docks and rock walls even if they are right where you launch your boat or kayak from!
Be sure to take notice of the direction of the current and set yourself up to drift right by the hungry trout!

Yea I agree some of the biggest trout I have ever caught were under docks I have never really fished rock piles though but I do know where a few are at I do have a question I ordered the old Brazilian power prawns about a month ago caught a couple fish on them but was going to try the USA ones but was wondering if the same hooks for the Brazilian ones would work for the USA ones I already have tons of hooks already and if I didnot have to order more different ones that would be great 😉👍

I am planning a trip to Charleston, SC sometime mid-April. I am anixous to try some of the lures I got from you guys! One of my buds down there told me that is the target period for him in that area. I am after the reds, trout and flounder. I will be fishing from the “Pitt Street Bridge Pier” in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Can’t wait!
