Wade Fishing From The Surf For Springtime Trout [Beach To Bay]

I joined up with Wader Dave for some wade fishing from the surf!

We started off fishing out on the beach in the Gulf of Mexico and then moved into a bay system later in the day.

This trip just goes to show that you don’t need a vessel to fish multiple types of unique spots – all you need is the gear and a plan!

LUKE’S GEAR:

• Rod: Slot Machine
• Reel: Daiwa Fuego 2500
• Mainline: Daiwa J-braid x8 Grand 10lb
• Leader: Ande Monofilament 10lb with a 20lb bite-tippet
• Hook: Hoss Helix Hooks and Hoss Round Eye Jigheads
• Lure: PC Tweaker (Slam Shady, ShrimpTreuse, & Optimus Lime)

WADER DAVE’S SETUPS:

• Rod: Slot Machine
• Reels: Daiwa Saltist MQ 2500
• Mainline: 10lb PowerPro
• Leader: 20lb Ande Monofilament
• Hook: Hoss Helix Hook
• Lure: PC Tweaker (Slam Shady and New Penny)

I tied up the PC Tweaker on a Hoss Helix Hook and threw it out into the surf!

Within a few seconds, I hooked into a nice trout on the first cast.

Due to the wave activity, my lure wasn’t getting down all the way to the bottom.

I made the switch to a Hoss Round Eye Jighead to get down through the waves.

After the trout bite slowed down on the beach, we made our way over to a nearby bay.

I got a nice redfish back in the bay on the ShrimpTreuse Tweaker.

The main takeaway from this trip is to rely on weedless hooks when fishing tight to hard structure.

If you plan on fishing near rocks or oysters, have weedless hooks with you.

Traditional open-faced jigheads tend to get snagged and that will cost you time and money.

Additionally, you don’t have to have a boat to do this!
