#1 Spots For Winter Wade Fishing And How To Fish It
- By: Luke Simonds
- on
Winter wade fishing feels random for a lot of anglers.
Fish disappear, bites slow down, and even “good-looking” flats suddenly go quiet.
But the fish are not gone.
They are piled up in very specific places most anglers run right past…
Featured Gear
- Lure 1: 2.0 (Slam Shady)
- Lure 2: Prawn
Key Takeaways
- The winter wading spot most anglers walk past is often the one holding the most fish.
- One tide direction quietly outproduces the other here, and it is not always the one people expect.
- Redfish and trout use the same depth change very differently, and that difference matters more than lure choice.
- Small adjustments in where you stand and which way you cast can turn a dead flat into a steady bite.
- In winter, matching what fish are feeding on matters less than matching how they are feeding.
Final Thoughts
Winter fish are not roaming randomly. They are using depth, current, and structure to conserve energy and feed efficiently. Channel entrances to flats check every box they need during cold weather, which is why these spots are worth slowing down and fishing thoroughly.
Try this setup on your next cold morning and pay attention to how predictable winter fishing can really be.

I would like to see areas where wade fishing is an option on the maps.
Sometimes “old” can be new! I’m not always one to go searching backwards but will look at new posts! I especially like the drone footage which really matches up well with the google laters in smart fishing spots.
Merry Christmas everybody in Salt Strong Nation!
Yea like I have said on every post you guys made on wade fishing here in northeast fl wade fishing is pretty slim to none even after using the smart spots app and the public land feature while there is alot of access on the st johns river the bottom makeup makes it inexcessable because of the dark muddy bottom and dark tannin stained water as well unlike the clear water and sandy seagrass having gulf coast you and your brother joe fish in wish I could wade fish but its the conditions that really don’t allow it just saying thanks for the info though and all you do
Enjoyed the informative video.
Concise, clear, and easy to understand with the video and drone footage. Thanks!
Thank you for this great information and presentation.
Thank you
Good video with very good information .. !
this is a great way to visualize concepts and learn. The aerial footage and markings on the video make it perfectly clear. I hope SS makes more videos like this.
Ditto!
Thank you
Hey Wyatt is back??
Fooled ya. Recycled content; removed prior comments and changed several years old date to a current one. When the acquisition announcement was made, we were told that acquirer wanted Luke to produce more content, and he’s doing it!
If ya need more content see if you can get Wyatt to make some new videos, I search for his old videos in Fishing Tips and enjoy his style of fishing.
Sure was nice having a full time coach in the central Texas coast area.
