3 Tips To Find Feeding Inshore Fish (Even In Bad Weather)

http://st%20augustine%20trout

Fishing trips and perfect weather don’t always happen at the same time…

Sometimes you need to make the best out of the conditions you’re given.

And that’s exactly what we did on this trip.

There was a strong wind from the north bringing cold air and clouds down with it, but this fishing trip (a SUPER-Community Insider meetup) was planned for months so we weren’t going to let a little wind and clouds stop us.

We were in kayaks, which made the wind a little more of a big deal than if we were in a boat, but we toughed it out and were able to get on some fish.

Check out the video below to see how we caught fish in poor weather.

Enjoy!

(P.S. want to see exactly where we were fishing? Check out our SUPER-Community where we show you every detail about each fishing trip, including the lures we were using and the spots we were fishing.)

Just because the weather is poor doesn’t mean the fishing has to be.

In tough conditions like these, follow these three trends:

  1. Find structure, such as oyster bars or docks.
  2. Look for depth changes and deeper water. In this video, we caught fish in the deeper water near the docks and in the cuts between oyster bars.
  3. Bounce jigs slowly off the bottom. Fish are more lethargic in cooler water, so fish slower than normal.

The cool thing about fishing is that these trends hold true pretty much everywhere.

There are the trends I’ve been following on Florida’s west coast recently, and they worked just as well on the east coast.

If you want to stay up to date with the trends that are happening in real time on the water, check out our SUPER-Community.

We share all of our exact fishing spots and what the fish are biting, plus we teach you how to find spots yourself (and loads more!).

So you now probably understand what I have been saying all along about how different here in northeast fl is from South and central fl not much in the way of seagrass and clear water here but lots of oysters and docks with strong moving tides good report thanks ????

I noticed the guy you met up with at your last spot had a hobbie peddle kayak that’s what I have although I haven’t used it in a few years because I fell in love with my Carolina skiff but I still keep it ready your buddy who took you to your spits should of had you guys launch at the lighthouse dock there is plenty of deep water and docks there you might of had a better chance at a redfish If you fished there I’m sure you saw the lighthouse it was visible in your first spot video there is a lot of shoaling there and around the st Augustine area especially where you were at being so close to the ocean inlet and as far as flounder st Augustine is known for them especially when they run in the spring and fall great video!

Great video as always Luke. My wife loves St. Augustine, but I have never fished it and plan to in the near future after seeing this video. Thank you. Best, Al

You are welcome Luke. I enjoyed it for several reasons:
1. You went to unfamiliar waters and used sound tactics to locate and catch fish. Proving it can be done!
2. You did an impromptu review of your paddle-yak. Real time, real experiences and reel fun
3. You hooked up with some of our Community members and had fun with them.
4. You gave James the credit he deserves for all the work he’s done to make our group better showing everyone that member input And contributions are important and valued, and finally
5. You showed that even when you didn’t catch you slam you still tried and had fun.

Keep it up!
