The Truth About Today’s Fishing Tackle Supply Issues

http://Fishing%20Tackle%20Supply%20Issues

If you’re wondering why it’s so hard to get fishing tackle right now, here’s the truth about why tackle is hard to come by.

In a sentence, the demand for fishing tackle has DOUBLED (if not tripled), and supply has been crushed due to a combination of Covid, lack of components, supply chain issues, workers not showing up, etc.

Listen in as we share exactly what’s happening, when we should expect things to get better, and what this means for fishing in 2021.

It’s been such a struggle trying to find fishing tackle and trust me, we are all frustrated.

But just like we made it out on the other side of the toilet paper shortage in 2020 squeaky clean (pun intended), things will start getting better for the fishing tackle supply chain!

And it won’t smell as bad.

Data is provided through the 48th. Week of 2020. So far this year, the CDC reports that 2,877,601 people have died. At the same point in 2018, the number was 2,606,928, and in 2019 , it was 2,614,950. If you get paid for not working, why work? Now do you thinks responsible for the shortage?

I think what you’re saying is the covid19 virus didn’t kill 564K. It was blamed for them. Clever, I agree. The COVID19 virus was a yearly flu like virus, used to manipulate the world’s population.

Sorry for the typo I didn’t mean to type 928 twice

The timing of this video was perfect. I’m new to Salt Strong and it feels like almost every time I want to order something, I have to hit the click to be notified because it’s out of stock. I was questioning whether or not the Tackle Shop was where I’d continue to do my shopping because of the supply issue. Now I know better. Good intel, great timing – thank you so very much!

Yeah, Joe. I took your advice to heart. I really, really wanted that TFO pro medium in 7’6″. I tried you and no dice. I tried local ( no 20% discount) and I found two, I repeat two, in 6’6″ . This after driving all over town in Naples and Everglades City. I have never worked so hard to spend a hundred bucks since I was a freshman in college trying to buy a keg. 🙂 I even called TFO and got a polite shrug, after (great CS), they ran down every local dealer.

So I called Bull Bay, and bought a a Banshee 7’4″”. Its not the rod I wanted, and at two bills shipped, a LOT more than I was going to spend with you guys on the TFO, but at this point, I will take what I can get. I even tried to buy local, but the shelves were bare. At least they are a Florida company and made in the US.

So that was a long winded way of saying good luck to you on getting stuff in and you can take my my rod notifications down, though I still want my trout eyes jig heads.:) I will post a field report on the rod next week when I get it, and take it for a spin.

PS I belong to the North American Fly Fishing Forum. It is a great, well moderated site, check it out. They also do a classified section. Flyfisherman are always down sizing or upgrading and you ca trust the members there. Same as here since we pay to be on the board. Maybe think about a members only classified section? I need a 3000 reel and I bet someone has one. I also have a nice ten weight fly reel I would like to sell. I doubt I am alone.

You did slightly mention this in your video, just thought I’d expand on it.

So covid happened. Everyone was trapped in their homes and literally bored to death. After a few months of isolation people wanted to leave their house to find some sort of entertainment, still be safe, and not come into contact with others like they normally would (shopping, eating, etc.). So what do you do? You go outdoors! Parks, ponds, lakes… you name it, have had a higher influx in the past 12 months than ever before. Every year, the US issues around 700,000 new fishing licenses nationwide. And that number has been very consistent for a LONG time. Those fishing license could have been issued to new adult fishermen, or to 16 year olds getting their license for the very first time. For every newly turned 16 year old, you’d assume that an elderly fisherman passes away, compensating for the difference. During the covid pandemic… 10 MILLION new fishing license were issued nationwide. That means the fishing industry has seen an increase of over 14 times. 14! So when you combine the massive amount of demand, even if things were in normal working order… supplies would run short. But when you consider people aren’t working, shipping delays… etc… it’s just that much worse. We’ve seen companies like Googan go from small companies, to a staple in the industry in a short time frame. Young people had a lot to do with that, which is fantastic.

I’ve been fishing my whole life… but I must admit, it wasn’t until covid broke out that I started fishing every weekend again. I’m sure it’s similar for many others. To me, the main concern isn’t over the tackle (although it’s a fisherman’s favorite thing to buy)… it’s the fisherys. And the sustainability of those fishery’s… now that they are seeing 14x the pressure. And on top of that… large bass (or any fish) that would be safe suspending in the middle of the lake/ocean, are now easy pickings with those who use mega imaging, live scope.. etc. Fish that weren’t accessible in the past… are now accessible… and with 14x the pressure. Mean while… Texas has a crazy freeze that kills millions of fish. This all translates to more and more pressure on our fish. It’s just a crazy world we live in. I haven’t had any trouble catching fish, fresh or saltwater, but it really makes you think. Will my children be able to have fun fishing like I did with my father? Will their children? Maybe the parks and wildlife services can start lowering bag limits, Or increase size regulations. Something has to happen at some point.
