Everything eats shrimp! That’s a great reason why you should always have a shrimp lure in your tackle box.
The most important part is knowing how to properly use them!
In this video I’ll be breaking down my favorite ways to retrieve shrimp lures, showing above the water (rod action) and below the water (lure action).
Enjoy!

Great tips. Thanks Tony.

Hey Tony, what retrieve would you use over an oyster bed? Thanks for sharing! I have more fish in the frying pan thanks to you!
Hey Jeff! Ideally a popping cork would work best around oyster beds to keep the shrimp just off of the oysters. You could also go with the weedless round eye jig head as light as you can go and use the bouncing retrieve. Most snags occur when the weight or the lure gets lodged between the oysters. Not so much the hook point.
Awesome- thank you so much for the reply- I am going to give your ideas a try today!
No problem Jeff!
Good information. I have almost always used the twitch, twitch, pause retrieve. Given what I learned from your video, I’m going to try the other retrieves you demonstrated when the conditions seem appropriate. Thanks!
You’re welcome William!
Good tips and review. Thanks. We’ll give it a try!
You’re welcome Ron!
Good reminders
For sure!
My area is mostly grass flats. If I put a lure on the bottom I nearly always pick up grass. Weedless seem to pick up grass, too. Suggestions?
Go as light as possible on the weight of the hook, or even weightless. The weight itself can snag grass. Also try using just straight braid and do away with the leader as all of the knots are prone to snagging grass. Last option would be to go with a texas rig. It’s shown in this video here:
