As the summer transitions to fall, it’s a great time to get on some black drum. They’re a strong-fighting fish on light tackle and can mix in with redfish schools, making for a double-dipping fun trip!
I found some BIG shallow-water black drum, but didn’t have any live bait to target them. If I was going to have success, it was going to be on artificial lures.
The good news is that once you find the fish, the rest is relatively easy… if you know what to do.

Nice fish Matt. A couple of those big ones will wear you out.
They sure will Mel! They will. take you for a ride for sure! Thanks for watching and leaving the nice comment!
Well matt I have only caught 2 black drum in my life both believe it or not on a spinnerbait foshing for reds and flounder one was under a dock the other by a grassline point with scattered oysters but neither were very large in fact both were only about 5 lbs each but very good eating size because unlike all you saltstrong coaches that release all your fish I keep my limits because that’s to good of eating to spend alot of monet on tackle gas and license to just let them all go and have nothing tangible to show for my efforts notice I said this word because a picture or video doesn’t count to me I love to eat fish but that’s me I’m a baby boomer and think differently then the younger generation does although pat is my generation I asked him why he doesn’t keep any fish and he simply replies that he doesn’t like to eat fish well so sorry him but more for me thanks for the video and tips and all you do
Haha I love to eat fish! Those black drum are great to eat when on the smaller size but when they get to be big like this they have a lot of worms more often than not. Thanks for watching the video, Steven!
