What To Do If Your Throttle Cable Breaks While Out On The Water

Think you might have a broken throttle cable?
If you can put your boat in gear, but not accelerate, then you might have a busted throttle cable.
The first time this happened to me, I was scared and thought I was going to have to call Sea Tow.
But the truth is, it’s not that big of a deal if you have a second passenger on board.

- How to get back to the boat ramp (even with a busted throttle cable)

If you think you have a broken throttle cable, take off the cowling and identify where the throttle cable is (see the video for how to do that).
Once you’ve found it, you can manually put the boat in gear.
Of course, you’ll need someone to drive the boat if you’re manually putting it in gear, so don’t attempt it if you’re alone.
And once you’re back on shore, make sure to spray down your engine with corrosion spray so that it doesn’t get any long-term damage.
