As Conditions Change, So Should Your Lures
- By: Tony Acevedo

In late summer before the water really starts to cool, subtle changes in the weather conditions can affect the bite. Miss it, and you may think the bite died off when you really just need to change lures.
In the video below, I had a gentle breeze to help improve the dissolved oxygen levels and make finding the 90/10 zones more predictable. Even so, I had to pay close attention to how the conditions evolved as the day went on. I’ll show how to adjust your approach to keep the bite going as the day wears on.
Enjoy!

Key to Success
- While the water temps are still elevated, focus on areas that the wind is blowing into—even if it’s a gentle breeze.
- Get on the water early! The best feeding activity starts before the sun comes up this time of year.
- Start with topwater early. The noise and splash help draw fish to it in the no/low light hours.
- Once the sun comes up, shift to a paddletail if you have a breeze. A subsurface twitch bait like the Skinny Lipper can also be effective.
- If the wind dies or gets very low and you stop getting hits on a paddletail, go with a Tweaker or jerk shad for a more finesse presentation.

Until the water temps dip below about 65 degrees and that’s not for quite sometime now I stick with my spinnerbait after the topwater bite has stopped I have all the skinny lipper colors and have tried numerous times to get hits on it and very seldom do I even get a reaction from it and I use and retrieve it just like the mini coarse says and as far as the tweeker and the trd ferguson I know this bait is made for calm clearer water something that here in northeast florida it is far from calm yes but far from being clear especially now with all the rain we have been having haven’t been out for a week now and can’t imagine how muddy the water is now here because of all the rain but it is what it is thanks for the advice and all you do
Spinnerbait is a great late summer/early fall lure.
