Fishing Coaches Richard Thomas, Matt Lanier, and I all hit the water together for some exciting on-the-water action.
What we didn’t know is that we’d reel up this MONSTER from the deep.

From start to finish, this trip was filled with non-stop trout.
Our plan was to begin throwing popping corks with live shrimp to find the fish and then go from there.
But the trout bite was hot from the jump!
Popping corks and live shrimp are an easy recipe to catch fish – odds are something will bite your line.
Not long into the trip, our aerator keeping our shrimp alive died which in turn killed off all the shrimp we had.
But we still got the job done.
Thereafter, the bite shut down as the tide moved into slack periods.
This is a perfect time to head out and explore new waters to scout low-tide fishing spots.
Later on in the trip, something BIG pulled the cork down and slumped my rod over the side of the boat.
Immediately, I knew I had something big on the end of the line, my initial thoughts were BULL REDFISH.
Then out from the deep, emerged the biggest bonnethead shark any of us had ever seen!!
What an insane catch and one I’ll remember for a long time!
Conclusion
Bottom line: live shrimp and a popping cork was the ticket on this trip.
It’s a sure-fire method to get tight lines, especially RIGHT NOW in the middle of fall.
