Rich, Great podcast last night. Never tried Tog fishing. Watched people fish for Tog from the North Jetty in Ocean City, MD. They got snagged more than they were catching fish. Which is probably why I never tried fishing for Tog. Learned a lot last night. Just might have to give it a try now. Have you ever caught Tog on artificial lures? If so, what do you recommend?
Thanks for watching the show last night. I’m glad you found value in it. I have used artificial baits for tautog, however I only do it as a last resort. When fishing a jetty its critical to have enough weight to keep that lure in one spot so the lighter jigs suck as the Savage Gear or Krusty Crab are too small and light. I’d actually go with a Power Prawn or Zman Kicker weighted with a heavy jig head. Keep in mind you will want to have these baits scented to improve your odds. I’d look at shedder oil or a Dr. Juice or crab scented Pro-Cure.
Mark, while fishing for Stripers in the Spring I caught 2 tog on back to back casts with a Slam Shady 2.0 with Dr Juice. Pure luck but it can happen.
Christopher isn’t it crazy what can happen out there? I guess the Dr. Juice was working!
Great Reels.. 👍
