Do you know how to choose the right size jig head for the soft plastics you’re using?
If not, that could be the difference between an inshore slam and getting skunked.
Choosing the right size jig head is incredibly important, and we’re not talking about jig head weight here…
We’re talking about the hook shank length.
Check out the video below where I’ll teach you how to choose the right hook shank length so you can catch more fish.

Thanks as always for the tip. How could I apply this if I have to buy online? Are there specific sizes that work well together? For example: 4 inch bait and 3/0 hook? Something like that?
You’re welcome Anthony! It can be a little tough with jig heads because most don’t really say what size hook they have, just the weight.

hi TONY IS WHITE COLOUR YOUR CHOICE IN COPPER STAINED NORTHERN WATER
Thanks Tony, I’m a new fisher and eager to improve. I was wondering what the best times are for flounder: as in time, year, and tide.
Thanks Tony, as always you provide us with good stuff. Do you try and color coordinate jig head with lure?
No problem David! I pretty much stick with 3 colors – red, chartreuse, and grey. Red is pretty much my default color in most situations. I’ll use it with white, new penny, and rootbeer colored baits. I’ll switch to chartreuse if the water is murky and I need some contrast. If the fish are spooky I’ll go to a more subtle color such as the grey.
Tony,
Please do a video on rigging a soft plastic such a Berkley Gulp 3 inch Shrimp with a “weed less ” set up? The tackle shop said there is not a weed less jig head….
Thanks,
Here’s a video showing how to rig them weedless for covering shallow water with structure: https://saltstrongdev.wpengine.com/articles/weedless-gulp-shrimp/
Along with the video Luke shared, there actually are weedless jig heads. We currently sell some on our shop page:

I actually sent a question like this to Luke a couple of weeks ago. That’s a perfect answer to my question. Thanks guys.
No problem Mel! Glad it helped!
Well done Tony. Sometimes the smallest details make all the difference. Especially when we get in a hurry in the water. And don’t want to retie
Thanks for the great feedback Thom!
Thank you for the wonderful videos. I have been learning a lot off of them.
No problem Mike! Thank you for the great feedback!
Great practical information we can use. Thank you Tony!
No problem Dave!
