It’s sunglasses review time!
Sunglasses are some of the most important tools to have with you on the water because they keep your eyes safe AND help you see fish.
I recently dropped my pair of RCI Optics in the water, but I like them so much that I actually went to the store and bought a new pair on the way home.
In this review, I’ll talk about the top pros and cons of these sunglasses, and since we’re not affiliated with RCI Optics or any other company, you can be sure that this is a completely honest and unbiased review.
Enjoy!

Own Costa, Smith and recently bought a pair of RCI’s Mosquito. RCI’s clarity and quality make it the best for me! The guys in their Indialantic are the best! I fish the Lagoon weekly and have not experienced any problems.
So Tony, do you like them better than the Costa 580G glasses? If so,why? What lens color RCI’s are good for inshore fishing?
Definitely. Glass lenses are too heavy and would constantly slide down my face. The glass is also dangerous if you’re traveling fast on a boat or happen to have a lure fly back at your face. Costa’s polycarbonate lenses also seemed to scratch much easier.
The copper lens color is recommended for inshore.
Think one of the Salt Strong members drilled 1/16″ holes on the end of his temples and attached a removable lanyard. Just a thought…
Haha, I now have a small float attached to my lanyard on my glasses. Bright orange as well for easy spotting.
Hey Tony…….I hope one of these days, some manufacturer of top quality sunglasses will think of folks like me who wear prescription glasses. The only option I have is the cheaper, lower quality Fitover sunglasses. They work OK, but it would sure be nice to have a pair of the top quality sunglasses to slip over my prescription glasses. I know some manufactures make prescription sunglasses, but they cost a fortune, and wouldn’t last more than a year or two before I’d have scratches in them.
Which ones do you use? I hear the cocoons are pretty good. I agree though, not sure why one of these higher end companies haven’t made a nice quality pair to fit over prescription glasses.
I’ve tried both Cocoons and Fitovers, and they’re OK, but not as good as the quite expensive prescription sunglasses I got from Smith Optics a few years ago which became unusable from scratches. There must be a good reason why the higher end companies don’t make fitovers, but haven’t figured that out yet.
Go to Specsavers they will sort you out
