This Rigging Hack Worked Shockingly Well For Cobia & Flounder

While filming a nearshore fishing crash course recently, I stumbled upon a rigging hack that led to an epic cobia bite.
We were in a 90/10 zone which was so good that my lures were having a tough time handling the abuse from the many cobia, ladyfish, mackerel, flounder, etc.
So I experimented with a rigging hack that made the bite even better while saving money on lures… details shown in this fun video below:

Great idea! That was awesome! What a blast to be catching one right after the other that way.
Thanks AJ!
Another great video with tips! Question for Luke… after losing the tail portion didn’t you sorta make a Polk County Tweaker out of it? I wonder if you guys fished the tweaker that day?
Yes, that nubbed version of the Prawn OG essentially turned it into a stick bait. We did not try the tweaker that trip, but it surely would have worked since the action would have been very similar and it could have been rigged on those same weedless jigheads that were enabling us to bounce around/over the pipe without getting snagged.
Outstanding video, thanks for sharing it.
Thanks James!
What are the size limits on keeping cobia. Were you releasing all these undersize fish?
They now have to be 36 inches at the fork, so these all had to be released.
30 Cobia is unbelievable! Sure you weren’t using grenades?! Very impressive and loved the footage! Tight lines, JK
Haha! Cobia are predators with big appetites, so they are usually not shy to eat a lure.
Great hack… more fish per lure while saving money ? Sounds like a win – win to me… tight lines, folks…
We’re glad to see that you enjoyed this post Gary!
How cool is that??? I always try to use plastics after they’ve been “eaten” a little. They somehow standout from the crowd.
Yes, any battle wounds a soft plastic lure has helps sell the story that it’s injured… the key is just to make sure that any tears it gets doesn’t cause the lure to have an unnatural motion.
Very helpful fishing tips, thank you
