In this demonstration, I’m using a Prawn USA Junior lure and a Hoss Round Eye Jighead.

Keep in mind, the tips shared in this video will apply to ANY soft plastic lure.

Before going further, you need to make sure the hook size matches up with the lure.

For this example, I have a 2/0 hook paired with a 3.5 inch lure.

If I was using the Original shrimp size (over 4 inches), I would have to use a larger hook.

Rigging Steps

To start, have the lure in one hand and the hook in the other making sure the back of the lure is facing the hook.

This is because we want the hook to come out through the back of the lure.

Insert the hook point directly in the center of the head of the lure.

Then, push the lure up onto the hook.

Make sure the hook stays in the center of the plastic.

Take your time if needed on this step.

Now, take the hook point and expose that through the back of the lure.

Make sure it is coming out through the center of the lure.

Push the lure onto the hook until you reach the barbs on the collar of the jighead.

Stop there!

Before pushing the lure over the barbs, perform the 90-degree loading trick.

This will save you money on soft plastics and extend the life of the lures you use.

Take the lure in one hand and twist it 90-degrees.

Now, push the lure up and over the barbs of the jighead.

Then, rotate the jighead into place.

This protects the plastic in the head of the lure and actually gives the jighead more plastic to hold onto.

That’s all there is to it!

Thanks for this video Pat. Quick follow-up question – do you consider the side with the slit the back of the lure?

The only plastic baits I really ever had problems rigging was the zman plastics made with there super tough pte plastic but after a few trys I got it down no big deal I know you wrote these instructions pretty much for beginner anglers but I have found patience is usually the key in doing any rigging whether it be on lures or knots or even putting fresh line on reels because usually when anyone is in a hurry to get it done mistakes alot of times occur but fortunately when you get to my age of 60 your patience becomes easier because you have already experienced the misfortunes that come with being young and always in a hurry anyways just saying thanks for the info im sure the newbies will not only appreciate it but use it as well 👍😀
