Strategies & Tactics For Chasing Springtime Bonito

My buddy Daniel Lawson invited me out for another round of fishing to see if our tactics for chasing springtime bonito continued to produce results!

We had our eyes PEELED for any action, specifically anything busting bait on the surface.

Things started off slow but here’s how the day went!!

Gear:

One MAJOR key to sight fishing for bonito is having a general idea of where the schools of fish are.

If you have an idea of where the fish are moving and swimming around, then you’ll be alert when they start feeding.

Have your boat or vessel ready to quickly jet over to where the fish are busting the surface.

Then toss a lure out in hopes you hook into one!

If you hook up to a fish, HOLD ON for a wild ride!!

Instead of cruising around in hopes of running into a school of fish, it was best to sit and wait on this trip and wait for the fish to reveal themselves.

We got lucky a few times on this trip with schools of bonito busting just a few yards away from the boat!

It was an AWESOME time and highly recommend trying this type of fishing if you haven’t done so already!

Thanks a ton, Daniel for taking me on your boat a second time!

Any favorite recipes for Bonito? I have smoked Bonito, tried frying and broiling, but nothing that really draws a crowd. How about searing it like AHI? Thanks!

My favorite is to grill it and use in some fish tacos!
