This is a two-item stowaway fillet system.
The combo consists of a foldable fillet knife and a foldable cutting board.
The Knife
I have been using the knife for about a year now and I am surprised at how well it has held up.
I personally don’t do a ton of maintenance and cleaning on my fillet knives.
The species I filleted with this knife range from sheepshead to tripletail.
Mainly any species with super thick scales and bones, this knife can handle.
The storage of this knife is what puts it a step above anthing else.
Simply fold the blade into the handle like a pocketknife and it folds into an easy to store handle preventing injury to you and further erosion to the blade.
There’s even a carribeaner on the end of the knife so you can clip it onto anything.
I have abused this knife and even left it out on the cleaning board for days at a time, and it’s still my favorite fillet knife.
On the other hand, let’s address some of the cons.
The actual blade on this knife is a lot stiffer and sturdier than other fillet knives I’ve used.
So this knife excels in cleaning the actual fish but it does not skin the fish well because it doesn’t have as much bend as other fillet knives.
But I would rather have a knife that is sturdy and tough to skin with than the opposite.
The Cutting Board
There isn’t much to address here other than that it provides a nice clean surface for you to fillet your fish on.
There are also magnets on the bottom-side of the cutting board so that it stays together when folded up.
An added bonus feature of the cutting board are that it has two knife sharpeners.
There is even a small ruler on the back of the cutting board in case you don’t have anything else to measure a potential keeper fish with.
Toadfish Combo
I had to buy these two items separately myself.
But there is now a combo that comes in a nice neoprene case that easily stores both items together.

I love the Toadfish fillet knife. Toadfish has a great customer service department. The pin broke on my first Toadfish knife. I called the company and they immediately sent me a replacement. I’ve used the replacement knife for over a year and it’s still going strong. Great product. I have the cutting board too. I don’t use it as often as the knife because I’m generally in my kayak, but it’s good to have when I’m on a boat. Love all my Toadfish products.
The video on the product page shows white non-slip “rubber feet” on the bottom. Yours has the black magnetic ones?
Does it come with both?
Would prefer the non-skid ones as I don’t think the magnetic would really be needed if I had the case to put it in.
Also think the magnetic ones may slide around on a smooth non-metal surface.
The white ones must new the newest version, so that’s what you’ll get if you take advantage of this special bundle.
Nice shirt, Luke.
Thanks Rick!
Just as a comparison on knives has a review ever been done on the AFTCO knives Captain Mark “Hollywood” Johnson uses in his cleaning fish videos? The Toadfish looks nice but I prefer a blade with some flex so you can feel the backbone and ribs as you cut.
Those AFTCO knives are a step up in both performance and price.
Thanks for the input Luke! I have a Bubba knife and a Danco for filleting fish but I may have to look into that AFTCO knife. The Toadfish is a pass for me.
Luke, it’s a nice combo. I like that the knife holds it edge. Knives need to be sharp otherwise they become dangerous when you try to work with them. My impression of the cutting board, “nifty” it folds, that’s about it. I don’t think the size is practical. I have cleaned thousands of fish. My cutting boards are at least 40” X 18” and larger, even for small fish. I feel a large surface makes cleaning and clean up easier. (I don’t clean fish on a dock). Take my opinions with a grain of salt, I am not cleaning anymore fish. I have cleaned way too many in my life running a charter on Lake Erie.
Thanks for making time to post the helpful comment Thomas!
I agree that the gaps are not idea for cleaning fish… I just use mine for cut bait when on the skiff which doesn’t have much storage room for a full cutting board.
I also think it would be most useful for cutting bait on the boat.
As a matter of fact, I think you should send one to Capt. Hollywood to use on top of his cooler.
Although, at this point, it would probably be pointless.
Great overview, Luke! I have the combo and have been using it for about a year now. I really like how compact the set is. ToadFish makes high quality stuff and they are champions for the environment and donate a portion of their sales to clean water initiatives.
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Christopher!
Hi Luke..thank You for the opportunity to purchase this combo. Is it legal to carry this knife?
I am not familiar with any laws that would say that it’s not legal to use this knife to fillet fish. Is there a law that outlaws this type of knife?
I think Ronald may be referring to states that have laws for the max. length of a blade for a folding knife.
I think those laws are only for when it is carried on your person (pocket, etc.).
I’m not a lawyer. So, of course, would recommend checking your own state laws about it.
Hey Luke.. Great video.. Like the polo shirt. Any chance of making them available in the store for Members?
Thanks Mark! That is a shirt we had made a few years back. That company is not longer in business, so we don’t have a proven vendor for a high quality polo shirt at this time. We hope to change that sometime soon though.
Have the cutting board and have used it primarily for bait on the boat. Great that it folds into such a small package but all the nasty stuff leaks through between the sections and makes a huge mess on the boat.
Thanks for posting the helpful comment! Yes, this board is mostly for fishermen who need something that they can use to for a cutting board that stores in a very small space.
The knife needs a bottle opener on the end for stubborn soda pop lids. 🙂
That would certainly be a good addition… it’s important to stay hydrated while cleaning fish.
