Lately, I’ve been doing A LOT of traveling which has given me the opportunity to explore new fisheries and locations.

The major obstacle when exploring completely new areas is dialing into what those fish are keyed in on.

It is often a constant struggle.

But there is ONE option, ONE color that always works well no matter the water clarity or where you are.

If you’re ever unsure of what color to use in a new area, go with something that is WHITE or Slam Shady works even better.

White and Slam Shady color lures take on the color of the water.

Then you aren’t left to pick and choose what blends well with that water clarity that also mimics the bait in the water.

If you are fishing in stained water, white or Slam Shady will stand out while maintaining a natural look.

Moreover, if you are fishing in clear water, those fish are likely keyed in on silver or white bait.

Slam Shady may even be a better option than white because Slam Shady does have a bit of silver flake in it.

In this video, I was using the 4-inch Z-Man Slam Shady Scented Jerk ShadZ rigged on the Z-Man Texas Eye Jighead.

This is an excellent presentation for all kinds of inshore fish that also allows you to remain weedless.

It is my go-to presentation when I first launch for any tournament because I know it will trigger strikes.

4″ SLAM SHADY is my #1 go-to & have caught over 200 hundred slot/over slot Reds & hundreds of Snook, on my skiff with 2 being over 40 ” & a few that got off due to user error !! It’s the BEST lure I’ve used in over 65 years of fishing, BY FAR !!! Thanks Matt !!!!

I agree on the color white. A white 3″ paddle tail on a red jig has been my go to color for years for inshore fishing. It is also a great choice for walleye in the spring when they are in shallow water after dark when I am back in Minnesota.

Thanks Matt! Seems to me if the bottom of any lure is white or light colored that’s what matters.
